The Tempo have a \u201cproven WNBA winner in Brondello,\u201d who is the winningest coach in the Liberty and Mercury\u2019s histories and won a title with each franchise. She also has \u201cdemonstrated the ability to connect with players.\u201d Brondello was \u201clargely beloved by New York\u2019s players and support staff as the franchise went from just 16-20 in her first season to a perennial title contender at the end of her tenure,\u201d including the 2024 championship. The Tempo \u201cprioritized past head-coaching experience in its search and considered several other former WNBA head coaches.\u201d However, the Tempo\u2019s \u201cnext steps remain an open question,\u201d as the upcoming expansion draft involving the Tempo and fellow expansion team the Portland Fire, both set to start play in 2026, is \u201cnot expected until after\u201d a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/10\/20\/caitlin-sat-napheesa-stood-her-ground-and-the-2025-wnba-hits-a-critical-inflection-point\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/10\/20\/caitlin-sat-napheesa-stood-her-ground-and-the-2025-wnba-hits-a-critical-inflection-point\/\">new CBA<\/a> is reached.
