{"id":238274,"date":"2025-10-25T02:18:10","date_gmt":"2025-10-25T02:18:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/238274\/"},"modified":"2025-10-25T02:18:10","modified_gmt":"2025-10-25T02:18:10","slug":"damian-lillard-fires-back-at-kevin-love-over-savage-meme-about-nba-gambling-scandal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/238274\/","title":{"rendered":"Damian Lillard Fires Back at Kevin Love Over Savage Meme About NBA Gambling Scandal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_75305nate\">Kevin Love&#8217;s brazen joke about the league&#8217;s shocking gambling scandal rubbed at least one NBA player the wrong way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_425i2d2wi\">After Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups, Heat guard Terry Rozier and former Cavaliers assistant Damon Jones were arrested <a class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_aoxits\" href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nba\/chauncey-billups-terry-rozier-indicted-in-mob-linked-gambling-investigation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">as part of a federal sports gambling investigation<\/a>, Love made light of a serious issue <a class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_aoxits\" href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nba\/kevin-love-gambling-investigation-jokes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">by sharing a now-deleted meme of Billups and Rozier <\/a>on his Instagram account. <\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_rd55zw6tv\">Damian Lillard, who played under Billups in his last two seasons in Portland, fired back at Love over the savage joke and commented on Love&#8217;s post, &#8220;weak a&#8211; s&#8212;.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_lmwczt0iz\">Love then shared on his Instagram Stories that he spoke with Lillard and realized his meme was insensitive, so he took it down as a result.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_4d3zb10s3\">&#8220;Spoke to Dame and he opened my eyes to this being a real life situation for two of my former teammates and brothers. I took a particular post down because we all know they are going through it. As are their collective families,&#8221; Love wrote.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Kevin Love apologizes for posting Chauncey Billups-Terry Rozier meme after speaking with Damian Lillard: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ayNO6ob6iB\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/ayNO6ob6iB<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Legion Hoops (@LegionHoops) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LegionHoops\/status\/1981743514523418851?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">October 24, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_ikdyquw93\">Love played with Rozier on the Heat last season, and he played under Jones on the Cavaliers from 2016 to &#8217;18. <\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_xcvjtaf3q\">Love, a 17-year NBA vet, has made a notorious reputation for himself as something of a social media jokester (especially during the Jimmy Butler-Heat saga), but he seemed to show a bit of remorse after Lillard called him out.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_1pivlzqyg\">Rozier and Jones <a class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_aoxits\" href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nba\/damon-jones-not-chauncey-billups-is-nbas-biggest-liability-in-gambling-scandal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">were indicted Thursday<\/a> for their alleged involvement in a scheme to rig performances and share inside information about NBA games; Billups was indicted for allegedly rigging illegal poker games.
