Christiane Amanpour’s<\/a> cancer journey has been a winding one, but she’s pulling through.<\/p>\n

The 67-year-old British Iranian journalist and CNN chief international anchor revealed that she’s battling ovarian cancer again during an appearance on the “Changing the Ovarian Cancer Story” podcast<\/a> that was released Thursday, Oct. 23. The health revelation comes four years after Amanpour first revealed she had the disease<\/a>, later undergoing several months of chemotherapy treatment<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I have it again, but it’s being very well-managed, and this is one of the whole things that people have to understand about some cancers,” Amanpour told host Hannah Vaughan Jones.<\/p>\n

Ovarian cancer often goes undetected until it has spread to the pelvis and abdomen, which makes the disease more difficult to treat, according to\u00a0Mayo Clinic<\/a>.\u00a0Symptoms include abdominal bloating or swelling, quickly feeling full when eating, weight loss, frequent need to urinate, changes in bowel habits and discomfort in the pelvic area.<\/p>\n

Amanpour’s oncologist Dr. Angela Georg, who also spoke on the podcast, “told me that it’s an anomaly; it’s a fairly rare kind of ovarian cancer.”<\/p>\n

With ovarian cancer often called “the silent killer,” Amanpour said that she was “afraid” when she first received her diagnosis.<\/p>\n

“I didn’t know how long I’d had it, and until the surgery and the pathology I was not sure,” she said about her initial diagnosis and treatment. “Angela told me what it was and why I was potentially lucky because there were actually pain symptoms. As she’s just told you, there’s often no symptoms so many women don’t know. So I feel I was lucky.”<\/p>\n

Model and socialite Lori Harvey revealed she has been battling polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis for years. In a September 2025 episode of the “She MD Podcast,” the 28-year-old entrepreneur said gynecologists dismissed her symptoms for years before she received a proper diagnosis.<\/p>\n

According to the National Cancer Institute<\/a>, ovarian cancer accounts for 2% of all cancer-related deaths in 2025 and has a 52% five-year relative survival rate. Per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a>, “Ovarian cancer causes more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system.” A 2018 study reported<\/a> the “average lifetime risk of developing ovarian cancer is 1.3%, the equivalent of 1 in 78” people with a female reproductive system.<\/p>\n

Amanpour also said she decided to go public with her cancer status in 2021 “because I actually wanted to do a service, not just to my viewers, but also to those who might be in a similar situation.”<\/p>\n

“I wanted to say what had happened to me,” Amanpour said. “And I wanted to say listen to your body because part of the reason I got such quick care was because I listened to my body and went straight to the doctors.”<\/p>\n
