<\/a>Max Verstappen makes astonishing \u2018retirement\u2019 claim ahead of Mexico GP<\/p>\n

Max Verstappen<\/a> believes he will need cars ahead of him to \u201cretire\u201d to go up the order in Sunday\u2019s Mexico City Grand Prix after only qualifying fifth on the grid. <\/p>\n

In a surprise turn of form, Red Bull<\/a>\u2019s Verstappen struggled for pace and will start on the third row, between the Mercedes drivers of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli. <\/p>\n

<\/a>Oscar Piastri confused by lack of pace<\/p>\n

Asked where he felt the issues were with the car, Piastri was unable to give any clarity, telling Sky Sports: \u201cIt all feels OK, just no pace. It\u2019s a bit of a mystery. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been more or less the same gap all weekend, we\u2019ll have a look where it is going wrong. Obviously a bit frustrating\u201d <\/p>\n

Asked to elaborate further on how the car feels different to earlier in the year: \u201cNot a huge amount to be honest, this weekend and last weekend it\u2019s just felt like the pace hasn\u2019t come. Not 100% sure why yet, we\u2019ll do some digging. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll try my best [at the start], that will be an opportunity to make some progress forwards, so we\u2019ll see what we can do.\u201d<\/p>\n

On his lap: \u201cI\u2019m happy to be back on pole, it\u2019s been quite a long time. The lap – I dunno, you don\u2019t really know what happened, it felt decent, I was very pleasantly surprised. I\u2019ve felt good all weekend. Bit nervous of the Ferrari in Q3 at the end – but very happy with that. <\/p>\n

On race preparation: \u201cI\u2019ve not been sleeping well lately, maybe that\u2019s the key. I\u2019ve had some good races here in the past, just focus, that\u2019s all I can do.\u201d<\/p>\n

On race\/title race: \u201cI\u2019m here to win. I\u2019ll be looking forward, I know I\u2019ve got some quick guys behind me, the racepace from the Ferrari is very fast, I know it won\u2019t be easy.\u201d <\/p>\n
