<\/p>\n SANTA CLARA, Calif.\u00a0\u2013 Jackson Ozburn<\/a> made a penalty kick save and Niv Berkovitz<\/a> scored\u00a0the game-winning goal in Santa Clara men’s soccer’s 1-0 upset win over\u00a0No. 5 Portland, snapping their 23-match unbeaten streak.\u00a0 The\u00a0save on Joe Highfield’s\u00a0PK\u00a0was immediately followed by another denial\u00a0on the rebound to preserve a scoreless match early in the second half.\u00a0 Portland’s goalkeeper Miguel-Angel Hernandez also had a\u00a0double save on back-to-back shots by Simon Diagana<\/a> but on the third try, Berkovitz buried one for the lone goal of the game in the 75th minute.\u00a0\u00a0

\nHOW IT HAPPENED:\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tThree minutes into the second half, Portland (10-1-3, 3-1-2 WCC), who entered the game with the\u00a0nation’s third most prolific offense in the nation averaging 2.62 goals per game, was awarded a penalty kick when Andrew Sullivan<\/a> tripped up a Pilot player inside the box.\u00a0\u00a0
\n\tHighfield’s left-footed PK\u00a0attempt was turned away\u00a0by Ozburn as he dove to his right and quickly got up to make another stop on Alex Waggoner’s shot off the rebound from point blank range.\u00a0 They were two of his\u00a0five saves on the day to record his seventh clean sheet of the season.\u00a0
\n\tSanta Clara (5-4-6, 2-2-2 WCC) used the momentum provided by Ozburn’s play to hold the Pilots offense in check.\u00a0 Meanwhile, the Broncos had a golden opportunity in the 51st minute when Berkovitz’s shot hit the post.\u00a0 It was one of 40 shots in the game with the Pilots holding a slight edge 21-19.
\n\tThe Broncos broke through with a tally\u00a0midway through\u00a0the second half, needing three shots to get one past Hernandez.\u00a0 Diagana’s two shots were turned away in the near post but Berkovitz sent one to the far post that found the back of the net.
\n\tThe goal was just the eighth one scored against Portland all season.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n\tA minute later in the 76th minute,\u00a0David Ajagbe nearly had the\u00a0equalizer but defender Yu Yokokawa<\/a> cleared the ball off the line for a team save.\u00a0 It was one of\u00a0five shots by the Pilots in the final 15 minutes as the Broncos defense stayed well organized.\u00a0\u00a0
\n\tSCU\u00a0gave up a sizable advantage in corner kicks 18-4 including 13\u00a0in the second half.

\n\tSanta Clara leads\u00a0the series 26-21-9.
\n\tBerkovitz scored his sixth goal\u00a0and Diagana had his fourth assist of the season, both tops on the team.\u00a0\u00a0
\n\tPortland was shut out for just the second time this year.\u00a0 They had a scoreless draw against Saint Lous on Sept. 12.
\n\tPortland’s 23-match unbeaten streak was the second longest in the nation.
