The European road champion says her outspoken nature often draws criticism, but she refuses to be silent. \u201cIf I don\u2019t do it, I think I\u2019ll lose more energy because I\u2019m thinking about it all the time,\u201d she told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.volkskrant.nl\/sport\/demi-vollering-elke-keer-als-ik-mijn-mond-opentrek-komt-er-commentaar-dat-is-dan-maar-zo~b0e7fb80\/?referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.wielerflits.nl%2F\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">de Volkskrant<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI now know that every time I open my mouth, there will be comments. So be it,\u201d Vollering said. The Dutch rider was referring to her earlier remarks about Tour de France Femmes winner Pauline Ferrand-Pr\u00e9vot, when she suggested you can also win without being \u201csuper skinny.\u201d<br \/>Cycling Twitter\u2122, or Cycling Bluesky, (or Mastodon, how did that go?) took that as a jab at the French champion \u2014 something Vollering says was never her intent.<\/p>\n<p>Vollering misunderstood<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was another eye-opener how my comments were then taken out of context, how clickbait was turned into clickbait. I was very disappointed about that\u2026 She had won the Tour not only because she was lighter in weight, but also because she had prepared well.\u201d<br \/>Vollering says she\u2019s learned that other riders often hold back their views. \u201cI had a small discussion with Marlen Reusser about it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter I had spoken out, the time trial world champion also decided to express himself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the fallout, Vollering says she has no plans to change. \u201cI\u2019m not going to get quieter about it,\u201d she said. \u201cBut I don\u2019t want to give another hundred interviews on that one subject when I\u2019ve spoken out about one thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/cyclingmagazine.ca\/sections\/news\/2026-tours-de-france-double-alpe-dhuez-for-men-and-mont-ventoux-for-the-women\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2026 Tour de France Femmes<\/a> route is pretty spectacular, in case you missed it.
