{"id":242341,"date":"2025-10-27T00:07:05","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T00:07:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/242341\/"},"modified":"2025-10-27T00:07:05","modified_gmt":"2025-10-27T00:07:05","slug":"province-walks-back-on-plan-to-consider-changes-to-security-of-tenure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/242341\/","title":{"rendered":"Province walks back on plan to consider changes to \u2018security of tenure\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Ford government says it won\u2019t be moving forward with consultations to modify the law that protects tenants\u2019 right to remain in their unit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">On Sunday afternoon, Ontario\u2019s Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing said his government is changing course on its plan to explore \u201cchanges to Ontario\u2019s tenancy lease framework regarding month-to-month leases.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/robflackeml\/status\/1982527369878319160?s=46&amp;t=ll9LyXL8n-vsuDIWNM3bXQ\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"https:\/\/x.com\/robflackeml\/status\/1982527369878319160?s=46&amp;t=ll9LyXL8n-vsuDIWNM3bXQ\">post on X<\/a>, Rob Flack said the Ford government is \u201cnot proceeding with consultations\u201d pertaining to what is known as \u201csecurity of tenure,\u201d which gives tenants the right to remain in their rental unit as long as they follow their lease agreement and the Residential Tenancies Act.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">This was one of more than 40 changes being considered to various regulations and acts in the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/news.ontario.ca\/en\/release\/1006645\/province-introducing-legislation-to-build-homes-and-infrastructure-faster\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fighting Delays, Building Faster Act<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe will continue to implement other common-sense reforms to strengthen the province\u2019s rental housing market,\u201d he said in a short statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cResidents expect stability and predictability in Ontario\u2019s rental market, and now is not the time to consider changes to this system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/5WFU3XF723JWDAQXGTAXQSNPCM.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"533\"\/>PC MPP Rob Flack attends Question Period at Queen&#8217;s Park in Toronto, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
