The Toronto Tempo have yet to put a team on the WNBA court, but the expansion franchise already has a slam dunk for a head coaching hire.<\/p>\n

Women’s basketball reporter Howard Megdal revealed on Wednesday<\/a> that two-time WNBA championship winner Sandy Brondello will be the Tempo’s first head coach.<\/p>\n

Brondello’s shocking exit from the New York Liberty hit a season after she won her second WNBA title as a coach, the Liberty’s first. The Tempo landing Brondello should fast-track the team’s competitive edge, given that the roster assembly goes as hoped. You can’t overstate what a big deal this is for the expansion program.<\/p>\n

Brondello seemed like a great fit for teams like the Seattle Storm and Dallas Wings, but those franchises will now have to go in a different direction. The biggest coaching free agent is headed to Toronto, as the city gets another big win in the same week the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> make the 2025 World Series.<\/p>\n
