Tuck was asked whether the Sun will eventually land in Boston.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t really give an answer because I don\u2019t know,\u201d Tuck said. \u201cBut I think it\u2019s always a good thing that people want a team. They want the W to be here. They want women\u2019s basketball in this city. I always think that\u2019s a good thing. Now, will they get it or not? Who knows? We\u2019ll see. But it\u2019s a good problem to have.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Sun and the WNBA are in a holding pattern. Negotiations over a new collective bargaining agreement grew contentious as the season ended this month. The gulf between players and owners<\/a> appeared as far as it\u2019s ever been, and that hasn\u2019t changed with the Oct. 31 deadline to reach an agreement fast approaching.<\/p>\n The sides could agree to extend negotiations beyond the deadline, which was a measure they needed to take five years ago. But in the meantime, teams across the WNBA have the challenge of planning for next season while the offseason is still uncertain.<\/p>\n \u201cWe just try to stay in the present,\u201d Tuck said. \u201cWe try to plan out as much as we can, but just understand that we could be planning and things could change and we have to change the plan. So, you just try to control what you can control and focus on what we do know. <\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s hard when you\u2019re trying to keep a long-term vision in mind but you don\u2019t know what long term will look like. But we\u2019ll pivot if we have to. We have our Plan B\u2019s and Plan C\u2019s. It\u2019s difficult at times, but it\u2019s really all we can do.\u201d<\/p>\n While the WNBA will welcome two expansion franchises \u2014 the Toronto Tempo and the Portland Fire \u2014 there\u2019s still no date for an expansion draft. Free agency typically starts in January, but in order to have a free agent period, there must be a CBA. <\/p>\n \u201cWe have to wait and see,\u201d Tuck said. \u201cI think the CBA is going to determine a lot with the expansion draft, and obviously free agency, too. So, we\u2019re kind of playing the waiting game, seeing where things land. We know the rules from last year are probably going to have to change a little bit from this year with two new teams, but we\u2019re just trying to plan for as much as we can because we just don\u2019t know yet. So, we\u2019re just kind of waiting, and hopefully we find out soon.\u201d<\/p>\n
