Canadian tourists holed up in hotel conference room <\/p>\n
After their flight home from Jamaica on Sunday was cancelled, Stephanie Brayford and her family are now sheltering in place in a hotel conference room in Negril on the island\u2019s west coast. <\/p>\n
The storm is \u201cnothing like anything I\u2019ve experienced,\u201d Brayford told CBC News Network host Andrew Nichols. <\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I have experienced a tornado,\u201d she said. \u201cThe winds just take your breath away.\u201d<\/p>\n
Brayford said hotel staff tried to board up the entrance to protect the building from the intense winds, but the boards \u201cwere gone within hours of putting them up.\u201d<\/p>\n
For now, she said, she and her family are safe, holing up with other guests in the conference room while sleeping on deck chair cushions. <\/p>\n
