Rafael Nadal was present when Roger Federer retired from tennis at the 2022 Laver Cup.<\/p>\n

Playing one final match before hanging up his racket for good, Federer partnered with his long-time rival Nadal in doubles at the Laver Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The pair battled hard but eventually lost out in a match tiebreak 9-11, to Team World\u2019s Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Spain\u2019s Nadal retired two years later<\/a>, at the Davis Cup Finals, having failed to add to his tally of 22 Grand Slams after the Swiss ended his career.<\/p>\n

Speaking today, Nadal<\/a> has revealed what really happened to him when Federer retired from tennis in 2022.<\/p>\n

Rafael Nadal says a part of him left with Roger Federer when he retired from tennis<\/p>\n

During an interview with Korean media outlet \u2018You Quiz\u2019, Nadal shared how Federer\u2019s<\/a> retirement affected him.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn some way, he has been an important part of my life,\u201d said Nadal.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was my main rival for a long time at the beginning of my career.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen he retired, a part of me left with him.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was quite emotional.\u201d<\/p>\n

Federer\u2019s retirement was certainly emotional, as both he and Nadal failed to hold back their tears in London three years ago.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t all that surprising to see the pair overcome with emotion, given the magnitude of their tennis rivalry.<\/p>\n

Federer and Nadal contested nine Grand Slam finals between 2006 and 2017.<\/p>\n

The 20-time and 22-time Grand Slam champions left tennis in a better place than they found it, entertaining a generation of fans with their efforts around the world.<\/p>\n

Roger Federer wants to play Rafael Nadal in a legends match<\/p>\n

During this year\u2019s Laver Cup, Federer was asked if he\u2019d consider playing Nadal<\/a> on a \u2018seniors\u2019 tour.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, why not?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, I love Rafa [Nadal], and I played four hours of tennis the other day here in San Francisco.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m trying to keep in good shape, and I know that Rafa is also totally open to maybe playing some tennis.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt sounds terrible, \u2018senior\u2019s tennis\u2019 to us, you know, but maybe we can create a tour, like a \u2018Fedal\u2019 tour or something like that. I mean, it would be cool.\u201d<\/p>\n

Federer\u2019s agent, Tony Godsick, added fuel to the fire<\/a>, sharing his thoughts on a potential \u2018Fedal\u2019 tour.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been talking with Rafa a little bit about putting together a tour,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Rafa\u2019s interested, I don\u2019t want to speak for Rafa. But it would be great to see these guys out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whether or not the pair will face off again remains to be seen, but fans would certainly love to watch Federer and Nadal take to the court one more time.<\/p>\n

Who won the final match between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal?<\/p>\n

Nadal and Federer may well meet again in an exhibition, but who won their last professional match?<\/p>\n

The pair played their 40th and final ATP Tour match at Wimbledon<\/a> in 2019, facing off with a place in the final up for grabs.<\/p>\n

Federer took the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 [7-3], but failed to maintain his level in the second.<\/p>\n

Nadal began to dominate proceedings and won the second set 6-1, to level things at one set apiece.<\/p>\n

The Swiss legend wasn\u2019t prepared to go down without a fight, however, and won the third and fourth sets 6-3, 6-4, to secure his place in the final.<\/p>\n
