The hosts of \u201cThe View\u201d had a bone to pick with Judd Apatow on Wednesday morning, after learning he helped write the joke that would eventually cause Donald Trump to run for president.<\/p>\n

Apatow stopped by the ABC talk show in support of his new memoir \u201cComedy Nerd\u201d in which he takes fans through his career, and personal memorabilia, via scans of photos and more. And, though the interview started with host Sara Haines asking for his memories from making \u201cThe 40-Year-Old Virgin,\u201d it quickly pivoted, thanks to Joy Behar.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, you know, this is a weird time for comedy, and I read in the book that you helped write the infamous joke that Obama delivered<\/a> and Donald Trump went nuts,\u201d she immediately called out.<\/p>\n

As Apatow confirmed the story, both Haines and Sunny Hostin threw out their sarcastic thanks, which Behar echoed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks a lot! We can blame you for this,\u201d she joked.<\/p>\n

Apatow took it in stride, joking that he\u2019d take it all on if he could. But jokes aside, Behar had a serious question. She wanted to know Apatow\u2019s thoughts on Trump\u2019s vendetta against late night comedians, and seemingly comedy in general.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, I don\u2019t know, I feel like if you\u2019re not corrupt, you don\u2019t care about comedians,\u201d Apatow replied. \u201cIt\u2019s not like Jimmy Carter was really worried about the comments, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think that Obama was up late at night going \u2018Oh no, I better shut these people up,’\u201d he continued. \u201cI think when you\u2019re up to something, you don\u2019t want anyone to talk about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe View\u201d airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.<\/p>\n
