Nylander is unable to play in Columbus against the Blue Jackets on Wednesday, head coach Craig Berube told reporters pre-game.<\/p>\n
The 29-year-old first missed Saturday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres due to a lower-body injury, marking the first regular-season contest he had missed since April 4, 2022.<\/p>\n
Nylander originally sustained the injury on Friday. He exited with 5:51 remaining in the third period of the first half of the home-and-home against the Sabres and did not return for another shift.<\/p>\n
He was shown on the broadcast skating to the bench slowly after taking a hit to the mid-section in open ice from Sabres forward Jason Zucker.<\/p>\n
Nylander was a game-time decision heading into Tuesday’s contest. But after taking pre-game warmups, the 29-year-old got the green light to return to action.<\/p>\n
Nylander has recorded three goals and 12 assists in nine contests so far this season.<\/p>\n
Winger Sammy Blais will take Nylander’s spot in the lineup for his Maple Leafs debut.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Cayden Primeau will slot in between the pipes for Toronto on Wednesday in place of starting goalie Anthony Stolarz, who made 26 saves on 29 shots in the team’s 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames the night before.
