\u201cThe View\u201d revealed Monday<\/a> that hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar, Sara Haines and Alyssa Farah Griffin will not be dressing in costume for Halloween for the second year in a row.<\/p>\n

The reason? Executive producer Brian Teta feels the panel can\u2019t otherwise do the talk show\u2019s popular Hot Topics segment, where they tackle the hot social and political issues of the day.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe honest truth is we can\u2019t do Hot Topics when we\u2019re dressed up,\u201d Teta said on \u201cThe View\u201d podcast \u201cBehind the Table\u201d Tuesday. \u201cYou don\u2019t want to talk about the Middle East while you\u2019re dressed as Little Orphan Annie, it seems a little ridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\n

Behar, who joined Teta on Tuesday\u2019s episode, agreed. \u201cIt\u2019s a kids\u2019 holiday, and it should be used that way,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m proud of the tradition of the stuff we\u2019ve done, but I think \u2014 and it\u2019s not to say we\u2019ll never do it again, but we\u2019re not doing it this year,\u201d Teta concluded. \u201cWe\u2019ll see what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

The EP added that last year\u2019s Halloween episode didn\u2019t include costumes and it was \u201cour highest-rated Halloween show in four years.\u201d \u201cSo who needs it?\u201d Behar deadpanned.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a deviation from what many \u201cThe View\u201d fans have come to expect from the show, which has traditionally dressed up its panel of hosts in elaborate, kooky costumes \u2014 from Behar as that orphan Annie to Goldberg as Vampira (pictured above) to going all the way back to Barbara Walters as Marilyn Monroe. Teta assured that Friday\u2019s program will still include a memorable cold open, kids\u2019 costumes and \u201cpeople will like it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Teta and \u201cThe View\u201d co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin addressed<\/a> the decision to not dress up for the holiday on Monday\u2019s episode of the podcast, as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know I was bummed, but to be honest, with how heavy some of the topics are, you don\u2019t want to be, like, dressed as a grape and talking about what\u2019s happening in our news cycle,\u201d Griffin said at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe View\u201d airs on ABC weekdays at 11 a.m.\/8 a.m. PT.<\/p>\n
