The Verve<\/a>\u2018s classic hit \u2018Bittersweet Symphony\u2019 is being released on 7 inch vinyl for the first time ever.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Urban Hymns\u2019 hit, which has recently enjoyed a revival at Richard Ashcroft<\/a>\u2018s support slots during Oasis<\/a>\u2018 Live \u201925 reunion tour, is set to be reissued on December 5.<\/p>\n

The limited-edition translucent green 7 inch vinyl will feature the original artwork and includes Ashcroft-penned B-side \u2018So Sister\u2019, which appeared on the original single. You can pre-order it here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The song was a huge hit for The Verve in 1997 reaching Number Two in the UK singles chart and Number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.<\/p>\n

The video also became iconic but the song was bittersweet for the band after The Rolling Stones<\/a> won the publishing rights to it after their former manager Allen Klein \u2013 who controls all Stones material from 1963 to 1971 \u2013 sued the band over their sample of an orchestral recording by Andrew Loog Oldham. That snippet came from an orchestral version of The Stones\u2019 1965 song \u2018The Last Time\u2019, which Oldham recorded for the album \u2018The Rolling Stones Songbook\u2019.<\/p>\n

As a result all of the publishing rights and royalties from \u2018Bitter Sweet Symphony\u2019 went to Klein\u2019s company, ABKCO<\/p>\n

But in 2019, one of Ashcroft\u2019s managers managed to\u00a0win back the rights to \u2018Bitter Sweet Symphony\u2019<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0The Rolling Stones.<\/p>\n

More recently the song has seen a resurgence for Ashcroft during his support slot at Oasis\u2019 shows particularly when one young fan went viral after Shazaming the track<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The clip has even made its way to Ashcroft himself, who shared a post on Instagram making a nod to it and saying that \u201call new fans\u201d are accepted at his live shows. \u201cDay two. Thanks to everyone who came down and gave such beautiful support for my set,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you don\u2019t know it Shazam it, all new fans welcome!\u201d<\/p>\n

Ashcroft later said the tour was a \u201creal catalyst\u201d for young fans<\/a>. He is due to\u00a0play a run of solo headline arena dates early next year<\/a>, following\u00a0a concert at Manchester\u2019s Co-op Live in November<\/a>. Due to high demand, Ashcroft went on to add a\u00a0handful of new shows <\/a>to the tour last summer, which now includes stops in Glasgow, Birmingham, and Newcastle.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Last month, Ashcroft also announced details of a stop at London\u2019s Alexandra Palace Park,<\/a> and shortly afterwards revealed a huge summer show at Englefield Estate<\/a>.<\/p>\n
