Black Friday is always an excellent time to pick up that expensive piece of tech that you’ve been holding out on for a while with prices often reaching their lowest point throughout the entire year. Whether it’s a treat for yourself or a gift for a loved one, you’ll no doubt spot a discount or two that’s worth jumping on.<\/p>\n

One gadget type that shoppers will no doubt be keeping an eye out for is reduced smart watches with the likes of Apple regularly charging close to \u00a3400 for the brand new models. However, there’s a way to save a huge chunk of cash on an Apple Watch by picking up an older refurbished model, and there’s one currently available as part of Wowcher’s early Black Friday deals.<\/p>\n

Shoppers who head to the Wowcher site can find either Apple Watch Series 5 or Series 6 devices starting from \u00a389 <\/a>– that’s almost \u00a3111 knocked off full price of \u00a3199.95. Packed with most of the necessary features you’d find on a brand new Apple Watch, they’re a great way to get a taste of Apple’s wearable tech without forking out full price.<\/p>\n

The models on offer are refurbished,<\/a> meaning they’ve had a previous owner. However, they’ve been restored to their former glory and should still function as intended, albeit with a few cosmetic marks here and there.<\/p>\n

The <\/a>Apple Watch Series 5<\/a> launched in 2019 with it being the first Apple Watch to have an always-on display. As such, this means the wearer can always read the time on the display without having to do that awkward wrist gesture to wake the screen.<\/p>\n

It also retains many of the same health tracking features you’d expect from a smart watch, including heart rate and workout tracking. A GPS sensor is also built in, perfect for those who record their workouts and upload them to Strava.<\/p>\n

Shoppers who’d prefer to pick up a brand new watch rather than a refurbished one might prefer to opt for something like the Garmin Forerunner 255<\/a>. This fitness tracker is much more optimised for sports training, and also comes with a 14 day battery life – it’s currently on sale for \u00a3199.99, down from \u00a3299.99.<\/p>\n

There’s also this smart watch from Cillso<\/a>, which is currently a number one best seller at Amazon. Capable of taking calls and tracking health metrics, it’s currently on sale for \u00a323.99, down from \u00a3129.99.<\/p>\n

Shoppers who bought a refurbished Apple Watch Series 5 <\/a>from Amazon were impressed, writing: “Bought this for my partner and he thinks it\u2019s a brand new watch. It came in the packaged box like a new one and does everything a new Apple Watch would.”<\/p>\n

A second shopper adds: “Excellent condition and exactly what If hoped to receive as a refurbished product. Very pleased.” Meanwhile, a third reviewer writes: “My Apple Watch Series 5 was in excellent condition, with only 2 tiny very minor scratches, basically as good as new. The only downside is that the strap provided isn\u2019t an original apple strap and is quite flimsy in comparison, so this may have to be changed in the future.”<\/p>\n

It’s worth noting that the Wowcher <\/a>refurbished devices are fulfilled by Renew Electronics, which has some dubious reviews on Trustpilot<\/a>. There are some five star write-ups, like this review from Chris: “Can\u2019t really fault them.. ordered a \u201cgood\u201d Apple Watch Series 4, arrived a few days later than it advised but I think that was a Royal Mail issue, customer service good and helpful, quite a small deep scratch on the screen which you can\u2019t see when lit. Overall pretty good.”<\/p>\n

However, there are a few unfavourable reviews that warn shoppers that not every refurbished device has the same level of quality: “Received watch nice and quick battery life is ok but watch has a deep scratch on face and also no charger cable.
