The U.S. Food and Drug Administration<\/a> approved Lynkuet \u201cto treat moderate-to-severe vasomotor symptoms due to menopause\u201d on Oct. 24; Vasomotor is the medical term<\/a> for what\u2019s commonly called hot flashes or night sweats.<\/p>\n The active ingredient in Lynkluet, elinzanetant, works on two receptors in the brain that regulate body temperature, and one that may help with sleep. (The existing nonhormal treatment for hot flashes, Veozah<\/a> \u2014 the brand name for fezolinetant \u2014 only works on one receptor.) During clinical trials, the drug was found to have a profound impact on night sweats and hot flashes, Dr. JoAnn Pinkerton, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Virginia Health System, told The New York Times.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n Getty<\/p>\n Stock image of a woman cooling off in front of a fan.<\/p>\n As Dr. Pinkerton explained, 70% of those on Lynkuet saw the frequency of their hot flashes cut in half after 12 weeks on the drug.<\/p>\n While hormone therapy is often the go-to treatment for menopause symptoms, it can \u201csignificantly\u201d increase the risk of breast cancer recurrence in women with a history of the disease, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation<\/a> says.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s important that women know they have choices for treating moderate to severe hot flashes due to menopause, and today\u2019s approval further expands a woman\u2019s options for treating these symptoms,\u201d Claire Gill, President and Founder of the National Menopause Foundation, said in a press release from Bayer<\/a>, the manufacturer of the drug.<\/p>\n![\"Getty](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/9187d464a18f71f04978e7c45c9974f9.jpeg\"\/)
