Call 1-800-DOUG FORD, all the docs,\u201d Ford said at an unrelated news conference on Wednesday when asked if he would enhance recruitment efforts. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cCome by, call me on my cell phone, it\u2019s on the internet. Come by and we\u2019ll have you real quick. I\u2019d love to see the doctors, nurses, anyone in healthcare come to Ontario because we\u2019re a growing community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ford\u2019s invitation to doctors \u2018unacceptable,\u2019 Legault says<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Legault reacted to Ford\u2019s comments in a press scrum Wednesday, calling them \u201cunacceptable\u201d and showing a \u201cclear lack of judgment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re making major changes to our healthcare system. It\u2019s emotional and it\u2019s not easy,\u201d he wrote on X. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cEvery province is facing serious challenges in healthcare. This is not the time to be taking shots at each other, it\u2019s time to work together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he was inviting Quebec doctors to move to Ontario.<br \/>\u2070That\u2019s unacceptable. For comparison, the college received 19 applications between June 1 and Oct. 22. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The ones from Quebec who applied for licensure still need to be granted a certificate of registration. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick said Wednesday it has received applications from 40 Quebec doctors this month. It said it typically receives, on average, around three or four applications from Quebec in a month. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cNew Brunswick offers very attractive practice opportunities and lifestyles for Quebec physicians that are looking to relocate, and we welcome their applications for licensure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 \u00a0Aleisha LaMorre, College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick spokesperson<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Fears of an exodus of doctors leaving Quebec surfaced on Tuesday, three days after Bill 2 was passed in the National Assembly. Doctors\u2019 federations in Quebec are lashing out at the new law that introduces a new salary model that, in part, is linked to specific objectives set by the government, and slaps fines on doctors who challenge the new policy. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The ruling Coalition Avenir Qu\u00e9bec (CAQ) party <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctvnews.ca\/montreal\/article\/caq-invokes-closure-to-pass-law-on-doctor-remuneration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ctvnews.ca\/montreal\/article\/caq-invokes-closure-to-pass-law-on-doctor-remuneration\/\">invoked closure to fast-track the bill through the legislature<\/a> with limited debate. All of the opposition parties present voted against the bill in a 63-27 vote. <\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Doug Ford is the happiest man on earth these days&#8217; &#8211; Liberal leader on doctor&#8217;s exodus &#8216;We cannot lose more doctors!&#8217; Quebec Liberal leader Pablo Rodriguez is bemoaning the loss of doctors to other provinces. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Quebec Liberal leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctvnews.ca\/montreal\/article\/100-doctors-leaving-is-a-disaster-quebec-liberal-leader\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ctvnews.ca\/montreal\/article\/100-doctors-leaving-is-a-disaster-quebec-liberal-leader\/\">Pablo Rodriguez says he is worried about doctors leaving the province, calling it a catastrophe and is urging them to \u201cstay with us.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cDoug Ford is the happiest man on Earth these days because he has the opportunity to come and get our doctors. You see the same of the other provinces,\u201d Rodriguez said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He promised to rewrite the bill with doctors\u2019 input if the Liberals come to power in the 2026 provincial election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cNow there are things that the law will be scrapped, but there are things that we can use, and we\u2019ll be working with [Liberal parliamentary leader] Marc [Tanguay] and the team before the election on what would be a bill, and we\u2019ll sit down and we\u2019ll discuss with doctors, but we cannot lose more doctors,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe don\u2019t need less doctors. We need more doctors, and this bill has a devastating impact on that who pays the price the patients you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Quebec Solidaire parliamentary leader Guillaume Cliche-Rivard also said he was \u201cvery concerned\u201d and warned that \u201cthousands\u201d of Quebecers could suffer the consequences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI sincerely hope that doctors will remain in the network,\u201d he said at a news conference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Doctors are planning to hold a large rally at the Bell Centre on Nov. 9.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Faced with growing discontent, Health Minister Christian Dub\u00e9 asked doctors to \u201ctake a step back\u201d before packing their bags.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe will be issuing publications, holding information meetings, and organizing all kinds of events over the next few days to explain the law,\u201d he said at a news conference.<\/p>\n<p>Quebec doctors express concern with new law<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Dr. Raja Hatem, an interventional cardiologist, says at international conferences specialists from Quebec are often approached by recruiters, and that Bill 2 could push many to leave the province.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI always prided myself when I went internationally, telling myself, \u2018Listen, you might criticize public health care but we offer the best quality care as you do in Texas, as you do in San Francisco, as you do in New York but we do it for free for everyone,\u201d said Dr. Hatem. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">That\u2019s something Dr. Isabelle Gaston is proud of, too, but she can only work part-time as a family physician, covering 400 patients, many of whom have complex needs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cFor my patients, it\u2019s very important for me because I know I make a big difference. Maybe not a statistical difference in the ocean of all the doctors but nobody\u2019s a number when you\u2019re treating a health problem,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">She continues to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder following the murder of her children by Guy Turcotte.
