The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says it has seized thousands of litres of chemicals that are known precursor components in the production of fentanyl and other illicit drugs.<\/p>\n
On May 13 and 24, CBSA officers found 4,300 litres of these substances inside two marine containers from China at the Tsawwassen Container Examination Facility in Delta, the agency announced Thursday.<\/p>\n
The shipments were destined for Calgary.<\/p>\n
Sixty clear jugs and 20 blue drums were found to include 3,600 litres of 1, 4 Butanediol, a chemical used in the production of GHB, also known as the \u201cdate-rape drug.\u201d The CBSA says 500 litres of propionyl chloride \u2014 a fentanyl precursor \u2014 and 200 litres of Gamma butyrolactone were also seized.<\/p>\n
In the three months ending in August, the agency has made 12,193 seizures, it says.
