{"id":253682,"date":"2025-11-01T03:20:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-01T03:20:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/253682\/"},"modified":"2025-11-01T03:20:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-01T03:20:10","slug":"unrivaled-3x3-finalizes-2026-roster-as-big-name-players-drop-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/253682\/","title":{"rendered":"Unrivaled 3\u00d73 Finalizes 2026 Roster as Big Name Players Drop Out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Angel City center back and captain Sarah Gorden and goalkeeper Angelina Anderson spoke out on Thursday, opening their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/NWSL\/comments\/1okgynv\/sarah_gorden_and_angelina_anderson_response_to\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">gameday press conference<\/a> by addressing Monday&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/27\/opinion\/national-womens-soccer-league-must-adopt-gender-standards-to-keep-growing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">New York Post op-ed<\/a> penned by teammate Elizabeth Eddy that urged the NWSL to adopt a &#8220;clear standard&#8221; for gender eligibility.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Questions and controversy abound over intersex and transgender athletes,&#8221; Eddy wrote, suggesting the league require players be &#8220;born with ovaries&#8221; or undergo genetic testing, with a photo of Orlando Pride and Zambia striker Barbra Banda \u2014 who faced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/story\/_\/id\/44388328\/nwsl-condemns-alleged-fan-abuse-orlando-barbra-banda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">fan harassment<\/a> earlier this year \u2014 as the lead image.<\/p>\n<p>The article \u2014 and its originating <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/elizabetheddy2\/status\/1982593517362000308\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">tweet<\/a> \u2014 provoked backlash online, with Angel City issuing a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/weareangelcity\/status\/1983360680141979888\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">statement<\/a> on Tuesday saying the op-ed &#8220;does not reflect the opinion of an entire organization,&#8221; and that the team &#8220;has remained committed to equity, inclusion, and belonging.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>ACFC captain Gorden used stronger language, saying that the article directly caused her teammates &#8220;hurt&#8221; and &#8220;harm.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We don&#8217;t agree with the things written for a plethora of reasons, but mostly the undertones come across as transphobic and racist,&#8221; Gorden, who has a history of addressing <a href=\"https:\/\/justwomenssports.com\/reads\/sarah-gorden-on-speaking-out-breaking-stereotypes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">social justice issues<\/a>, told reporters.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/GettyImages-2219247465-1024x683.jpg.webp.webp\" alt=\"NWSL fans display a flag reading &quot;Trans People Belong&quot; at a 2025 NWSL match during Pride Month.\" class=\"wp-image-29869\"\/>The NWSL quietly deleted the league&#8217;s gender eligibility policy prior to the 2022 season.
