This notable shift means pharmacists are now key players in your health and wellness journey, offering more care than ever before.

In 2024, nearly five million Canadians received clinical care from a Shoppers Drug Mart® or Loblaw PharmacyTM. This includes services such as medication reviews, vaccinations, minor ailment assessments, travel consultations, and prescribing services among others. By providing these vital services, pharmacists are easing the burden on emergency rooms and other healthcare providers, showcasing their incredible value. We’re passionate about this shift and are investing to empower pharmacists.

We recently opened our seventh Pharmacy Care Clinic in Surrey, B.C., a fast-growing community, and celebrated our 200th clinic opening in September 2025. We’re on track to have 250 clinics in operation by year-end. Designed with patients in mind, these clinics offer improved consultation spaces, private exam rooms (including child-friendly options), and a care concierge to ensure a smooth visit and after care.

Central Pharmacy Services (CPS) has opened seven large central fill sites nationwide, where robots fill and package prescriptions for delivery. These innovative sites combine best practices of pharmacy and production to provide a highly performing, best-in-class network, freeing up in-store pharmacists to engage with patients and provide more health services.

“We support over 1,110 pharmacies across our network, filling around 70 million prescriptions per year,” says Fabien Marino, vice president, central pharmacy services. “We have a strong purpose and it’s so rewarding to know that the work we’re doing is making it easier for pharmacists to truly connect with their patients.” CPS recently celebrated filling its 250 millionth prescription, a testament to the team’s dedication to efficiency and enabling primary care.

This success isn’t achieved in isolation. “It takes a great deal of synchronization to be successful, because we operate in real-time, 24/7,” Fabien emphasizes. “Our recent achievements stem from exceptional collaboration across stores, National Operations, Pharmacy Operations, Loblaw Technology and Analytics (LTA), and Loblaw Real Estate to name a few. We operate at a high level of synchrony right now, allowing everything to run smoothly.” Supported by HR, Finance, and Communications, this collective teamwork makes it all possible.

As Canadian pharmacy evolves, CPS will continue to adapt, empowering pharmacists to practice at the top of their scope. With more Pharmacy Care Clinics opening, pharmacists will have modern environments to deliver professional, trusted care. Our goal remains clear: bringing accessible health services closer to home, making it easier for Canadians to receive the care they deserve from their trusted local healthcare professionals.

Pharmacies are evolving, transforming from places that just dispense medicine into vital hubs for your health.
