\n Two people have been arrested after a number of people were stabbed on a passenger train in Cambridgeshire, England, on Saturday, police said.\n <\/p>\n
\n Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) were at the scene in the town of Huntingdon.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cWe are currently responding to an incident on a train to Huntingdon where multiple people have been stabbed,\u201d BTP said in a post on social media.\n <\/p>\n
\n Huntingdon station is closed following the incident.\n <\/p>\n
\n The Cambridgeshire Police said they had deployed armed officers to Huntingdon station.\n <\/p>\n
\n In a statement on X, the police said they were called at 7.39 p.m. (3.39 p.m. ET) with reports that multiple people had been stabbed on a train.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cA number of people have been taken to hospital,\u201d the police added.\n <\/p>\n
\n Cambridgeshire Police said the incident was still ongoing and urged the public to report any information they have to colleagues at BTP who are leading the investigation.\n <\/p>\n
\n The rail company that operates trains on the East Coast Mainline, London North Eastern Railway (LNER), said in a statement on X that it was \u201cexperiencing major disruption across the LNER route.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cEmergency services are dealing with an incident at Huntingdon station; all lines are blocked,\u201d LNER added.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cOur advice is \u2018Do Not Travel\u2019. Please defer your travel where you can,\u201d the company said.\n <\/p>\n
\n British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the incident \u201cdeeply concerning.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cMy thoughts are with all those affected, and my thanks go to the emergency services for their response. Anyone in the area should follow the advice of the police,\u201d he said on X.\n <\/p>\n
\n British Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said she was \u201cdeeply saddened to hear about the stabbings,\u201d and that her \u201cthoughts go out to all those affected.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cTwo suspects have been immediately arrested and taken into custody,\u201d she said in a post on X.\n <\/p>\n
\n Mahmood said she is receiving regular updates on the investigation and urged people to avoid \u201cspeculation at this early stage\u201d as to what was behind the stabbings.\n <\/p>\n
\n The East Coast Main Line is one of the UK\u2019s busiest and most important railway routes. It connects major cities, running from London King\u2019s Cross to Edinburgh Waverly in Scotland.\n <\/p>\n
