\nThe Campus Gallery at Georgian College presents Growing Confliction, a new exhibition by Toronto-based artists Amy Wing-Hann Wong and Michelle Mendlowitz, curated by Georgian alumna Paige Lauren Stephen (class of 2020).<\/p>\n
The show opens Oct. 30 and runs until Nov. 30, with an opening reception Thursday, Oct. 30 from 5 to 7 p.m.<\/p>\n
Growing Confliction examines how gender bias and systemic inequities persist within Western medicine, offering alternative modes of care through artistic expression. Drawing from their own lived experiences, the artists transform the gallery into a space for reflection, empathy and discussion.<\/p>\n
Ceramic artist Michelle Mendlowitz uses sculptural forms to embody the duality of pain and resilience within the body, while Amy Wing-Hann Wong critiques the structural barriers that shape our health-care systems. Together, their works blur the boundaries between vulnerability and strength, proposing new ways to understand illness and healing.<\/p>\n
\u201cGrowing Confliction facilitates dialogue surrounding concerns of gendered health care, promoting community discussions and reflection on the urgent need for equitable health care,\u201d said Paige Lauren Stephen, guest curator and Georgian alumna. \u201cThe gallery space has been fitted with artworks that hold anthropomorphic qualities, challenging stigmatized histories in health care.\u201d<\/p>\n
This exhibition continues Georgian College\u2019s commitment to supporting graduates from the museum and gallery studies program through mentorship and exhibition opportunities, strengthening ties between education, art and community.<\/p>\n
The Campus Gallery is located in Room 140, D Building (Helen and Arch Brown Centre for Design and Visual Arts), at Georgian\u2019s Barrie campus, 1 Georgian Dr.<\/p>\n
Gallery hours: Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; weekends, noon to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n
