George Clooney has called out Hunter Biden for \u201coutright lies\u201d in his expletive-laden rant trashing Clooney\u2019s role in pushing former President Joe Biden out of the 2024 presidential race.<\/p>\n

An interview on CBS Sunday Morning<\/a> gave Clooney the chance to address the comments made by President Biden\u2019s son. Hunter, 55, took aim at Clooney, 64, during an interview on Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan<\/a> in July, roughly a year after the actor wrote a consequential New York Times op-ed<\/a> urging Biden not to seek re-election.<\/p>\n

\u201cF— you. What do you have to do with f—ing anything? Why do I have to f—ing listen to you?\u201d Hunter said. \u201cWhat right do you have to step on a man who\u2019s given 52 years of his f—ing life to the service of this country and decide that you, George Clooney, are going to take out basically a full page ad in the f—ing New York Times to undermine the president…\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Clooney\u2014who has previously defended the op-ed as a \u201ccivic duty<\/a>\u201d\u2014fired back in the interview with Sunday Morning\u2019s Seth Doane, saying, \u201cI could spend a lot of time debunking many of the things [Hunter] said because many of the things he said were just outright lies: Obama didn\u2019t put me up to it, it wasn\u2019t my fundraiser\u2014it was my fundraiser, all the things.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut the reality is I don\u2019t think looking backwards like that is helpful to anyone, particularly to him. I don\u2019t think it\u2019s helpful for the Democratic party, and so I\u2019m just gonna wish him well on his ongoing recovery and I hope he does well and just leave it at that. I have many personal opinions about it, but I don\u2019t find it to be helpful to have a public spat with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hunter had suggested in his explosive July interview that \u201cObama people\u201d had given Clooney \u201cthe blessing\u201d to write the Times op-ed. <\/p>\n

He had also blasted Clooney\u2019s characterization of a Hollywood fundraiser Clooney co-hosted for Biden in June 2024, where the then-president reportedly didn\u2019t recognize<\/a> Clooney, a major Democratic fundraiser. <\/p>\n

Hunter had claimed, \u201cGeorge Clooney wasn\u2019t really the host, he was the entertainment, I guess,\u201d and insisted that his father did recognize the two-time Oscar winner.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, Clooney again defended his op-ed while calling Biden\u2019s decision to effectively hand then-Vice President Kamala Harris the Democratic nomination after dropping out a \u201cmistake.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a chance. I wanted there to be, as I wrote in the op-ed, a primary. Let\u2019s battle-test this quickly and get it up and going. I think the mistake with it being Kamala is she had to run against her own record and it\u2019s very hard to do if the point of running is to say, \u2018I\u2019m not that person,\u2019\u201d Clooney told Doane. \u201cIt\u2019s hard to do, and so she was given a very tough task. I think it was a mistake, quite honestly.
