Sophie Cunningham established herself as a key member of the Indiana Fever in her first season with the team. Not only did she bring energy to the franchise and provide a reliable backup option at the guard position, but she also took on the role of an enforcer<\/a> \u2014 which made her a fan favorite.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old veteran averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.0 steal per game in 2025. She also shot career highs overall (46.9%) and from 3-point range (43.2%).<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, Cunningham ended up playing just 30 games for the Fever. She suffered a knee injury during an August game against the Connecticut Sun, which eventually forced her to miss the rest of the season.<\/p>\n

Cunningham tore her right MCL, which required surgery. She also missed the Fever’s playoff run as a result.<\/p>\n

Now, the seven-year WNBA player is recovering from her injury. On Saturday, she shared an update on the status of her rehab, sharing that she has returned to running on a treadmill,<\/p>\n

“She back,” Cunningham wrote, along with a video of her workout.<\/p>\n

It sure looks like Cunningham is on track to return in time for the 2026 WNBA season. The league’s regular season usually starts in May, so Cunningham has a little over five months to get back to full health.<\/p>\n

It’s worth noting, however, that Cunningham is a free agent this offseason. It remains to be seen if the Fever will re-sign her \u2014 or if they even can \u2014 since the team has 13 free agents out of the 16 players they had on the roster at the end of the season.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Cunningham shared on her podcast<\/a> recently that she wants a “bigger contract” from the “next team” she plays for. For now, it’s uncertain whether Indiana can meet her demands or not.<\/p>\n
