R.E.M.<\/a>\u2018s Mike Mills<\/a> has light-heartedly called out Ariana Grande<\/a> on his new supergroup\u2019s track \u2018My Cologne\u2019.<\/p>\n

The first single from his recently-formed supergroup Howl Owl Howl sees him joined by Hootie and the Blowfish<\/a>\u2019s Darius Rucker and the Black Crowes<\/a>\u2019 Steve Gorman to poke fun at the pop star\u2019s choice to name her beauty and fragrance brand R.E.M.<\/p>\n

\u201cAriana Grande put out a record not long ago, and her first single was called \u2018R.E.M.,\u201d he said in a new Instagram video. \u201cIt\u2019s the dream stage of sleep, that\u2019s where we got it. It\u2019s universal. That\u2019s fine.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd she put out a line of perfume called R.E.M. I said, \u2018Well, okay, that\u2019s okay\u2019. And one of the containers for her perfume was a cassette, I mean, literally a cassette, and it said R.E.M. on it. And then I said, OK, that\u2019s going over the line. I gotta say something about that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mills, reiterating that the upset was all in jest, said: \u201cI thought it was just funny, so we made a song called \u2018My Cologne.\u2019 The chorus line is, \u2018I want to smell like Ariana Grande, and I think she wants you to smell like me.\u2019 It\u2019s all in good fun, and I hope she likes it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The formation of Howl Owl Howl was officially announced last month, and the group have just started sharing music. They have yet to announce a release date for their debut album, but \u2018My Cologne\u2019 marks their first musical offering to listeners as a band.<\/p>\n

As for Grande, it was recently announced that she would be joining the cast of the\u00a0upcoming 13th season of<\/a>\u00a0American Horror Story<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It will represent the latest major acting project for Grande, who is also set to star in the sequel\u00a0Wicked: For Good<\/a>\u00a0on November 21,\u00a0the follow-up to 2024\u2019s\u00a0Wicked<\/a>, and she also appeared in the 2021 eco-satire\u00a0Don\u2019t Look Up<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year,\u00a0she reassured fans that she will not be \u201cabandoning\u201d her music career in favour of acting<\/a>. \u201cVery silly of you all to assume that just because I have my hands full with many things that I plan to abandon singing and music\u2026!!\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is and always has been my lifeline. There will need to be room made for all of it. It may not look exactly like it did before but I much prefer how it looks in my head. I am having fun. I feel grateful and excited and inspired :)\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

She has rarely played live since she completed her huge 2019 tour, only making a handful of appearances at non-profit events and\u00a0award shows<\/a>. She did reassure fans, however, saying\u00a0that she wasn\u2019t \u201cabandoning\u201d music<\/a>\u00a0and was looking into a number of live shows for 2026.<\/p>\n

In a\u00a0four-star review of \u2018Eternal Sunshine\u2019<\/a>, Nick Levine wrote for\u00a0NME: \u201cIt\u2019s the most sophisticated project yet from a preternaturally talented vocalist who keeps getting better.
