One of, if not the most notorious rapist in this province has died while in custody on the mainland.<\/p>\n

Forty-six-year-old Sofyan Boalag died Saturday, though it\u2019s not yet clear how.<\/p>\n

He was incarcerated at the medium security Bath Institution near Kingston, Ontario at the time.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the Correctional Service of Canada said there will be a review of the death, with the cause determined by the coroner.<\/p>\n

Boalag was convicted of raping two women and a 15-year-old girl in St. John\u2019s more than a decade ago, in 2012.<\/p>\n

He attacked his victims randomly, threatened them with knives, and sexually assaulted them after they were choked unconscious.<\/p>\n

Boalag was 37 when he was convicted in 2016 and later declared a dangerous offender, which comes with an indefinite prison sentence.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year he tried to sue the feds for failing to protect him from a stabbing in 2023, saying he was left permanently disabled.<\/p>\n

The Attorney General responded by alleging, among other things, that Boalag brought it on himself, provoking the other inmate.<\/p>\n
