There\u2019s a rumor going around that you\u2019re supposed to be diluting Cutwater\u2014yes, the canned cocktails<\/a>\u2014so you don\u2019t get immediately hammered. But is it correct?<\/p>\n

People on social media have long marveled at the potency of Cutwater\u2019s ready-to-drink cocktails, which can clock in at 12.5% ABV or higher. Some say that drinking them straight from the can is a mistake.<\/p>\n

According to a viral theory, it\u2019s all in the name: \u201cCutwater.\u201d The idea is that you\u2019re meant to cut the drink with water to bring the alcohol concentration down to human proportions.<\/p>\n

Although TikTok creators have confidently spread the word, Cutwater itself offers no instructions to dilute the product on its packaging. One commenter under a video promoting the \u201chack\u201d asked, \u201cDoes Cutwater know this?\u201d But based on the tone of the replies, a better question might be\u2014does anyone care?<\/p>\n

\u201cCut-Water? Cut it with water? Um, I didn\u2019t know that\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

TikTok creator Gage Briney (@gagebriney<\/a>) posted a video on Oct. 30, 2025, asking, \u201cDid y\u2019all know that we were supposed to be cutting our Cutwaters with water?\u201d The clip quickly racked up more than a million views.<\/p>\n

In the video, Briney claimed he just found out that Cutwater\u2019s canned cocktails are \u201cmeant to be poured into a glass and watered down.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDid you know that? Because I\u2019ve gone my whole life without knowing that. I\u2019ve been drinking that [expletive] straight out of the can, which is why I\u2019ve blacked out,\u201d he admitted. \u201cI did not know we were supposed to be diluting that with water.\u201d<\/p>\n

Briney added, \u201cI guess it\u2019s all in the name.\u201d But even after learning this supposed revelation, he said he wouldn\u2019t be changing his habits anytime soon: \u201cI\u2019m not gonna cut mine with water. I\u2019m gonna keep blacking out, thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n

As of now, Cutwater hasn\u2019t addressed the theory, leaving drinkers to decide for themselves whether to cut\u2014or not to cut\u2014their Cutwaters. <\/p>\n

Many TikTok users echoed Briney\u2019s reaction in the comments, admitting they, too, had been drinking Cutwater straight from the can. <\/p>\n

Others weren\u2019t convinced the rumor was true\u2014or necessary\u2014arguing that if the brand wanted people to dilute the drinks, it would probably say so on the label. Here\u2019s a sample:<\/p>\n
