He was a player with Atlanta from 1998 to 2000, appearing in 286 games with the club, earning an all-star nod in that ’98 campaign.

A 14-year MLB veteran, Weiss spent time with Oakland, Florida, Colorado and Atlanta as a player, winning AL Rookie of the Year in 1988 and the 1989 World Series with the Athletics.

This will be Weiss’s second time managing an MLB team. He previously served as the Rockies manager from 2013 to 2016. In those four seasons, he went 283-365 and never finished higher than third in the NL West.

The job in Atlanta was open for the first time since 2016, when the Braves took an interim tag off Brian Snitker.

Snitker announced his retirement following the 2025 season.
