The KARMA-Dep 2 study compared ketamine infusions to midazolam, an \u201cactive placebo\u201d that mimics ketamine\u2019s sedative effects.<\/p>\n<p>There was no statistically significant difference between groups on measures ranging from depression severity (measured with two different assessments, the MADRS and the QIDS), to cognition, to quality of life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe KARMA-Dep 2 trial did not find evidence that serial ketamine infusions were superior to an active comparator for inpatients with moderate to severe depression,\u201d the researchers write.<\/p>\n<p>The study was led by Ana Jelovac at Trinity College Dublin and published in JAMA Psychiatry.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-266494\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/sized-Depositphotos_824854286_S.jpg\" alt=\"Sign on a wall reading &quot;KETAMINE CLINIC&quot;\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ve landed on a MIA journalism article that is funded by MIA supporters.
