She was 89.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Ladd\u2019s death was confirmed Monday by her daughter, Laura Dern, in a statement to TheWrap. No cause was immediately disclosed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cMy amazing hero and my profound gift of a mother, Diane Ladd, passed with me beside her this morning, at her home in Ojai, California,\u201d Dern wrote. \u201cShe was the greatest daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist and empathetic spirit that only dreams could have seemingly created \u2026 We were blessed to have her\u00a0\u2026 She is flying with her angels now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Bruce Dern, Ladd\u2019s first husband, paid tribute to his e-wife in the aftermath of her passing. \u201cDiane was a tremendous actress and I feel like, a bit of a \u2018hidden treasure\u2019 until she ran into David Lynch,\u201d he noted in a statement to TheWrap. \u201cWhen he cast her as Laura\u2018s mom in\u00a0\u2018Wild at Heart\u2019\u00a0it felt like the world then really understood her brilliance. She was a great value as a decades long board member of SAG, giving a real actress\u2019 point of view.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He continued: \u201cShe lived a good life. She saw everything the way it was. She was a great teammate to her fellow actors. She was funny, clever, gracious.\u00a0But most importantly to me, she was a wonderful mother to our incredible wunderkind daughter. She was also nominated for three Emmy Awards and four Golden Globes, winning one for her role in the sitcom \u201cAlice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a data-ylk=\"ct:story;elm:img;itc:0;\" class=\"stretched-box\" href=\"https:\/\/powerwomensummit2025.splashthat.com\/Producers\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"247\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ae87b5d361f0d5e407ceee270b87727c.jpeg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Ladd starred in innumerable popular and critically acclaimed films over decades, including \u201cChinatown,\u201d \u201cNational Lampoon\u2019s Christmas Vacation,\u201d \u201cGhosts of Mississippi\u201d and \u201cJoy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Ladd was married to actor Dern from 1960 to 1969, and the couple had two children \u2013 Diane, who died at 18 months in a drowning accident, and Laura, who went on to co-star with her mother in \u201cWild at Heart,\u201d \u201cRambling Rose,\u201d \u201cCitizen Ruth\u201d and \u201cInland Empire.\u201d They also shared a bill in the HBO series \u201cEnlightened.\u201d Laura Dern also made uncredited appearances in \u201cWhite Lightning\u201d and \u201cAlice Doesn\u2019t Live Here Anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Ladd began acting on the CBS soap opera \u201cThe Secret Storm\u201d in 1971, but her big break was a supporting role in Roman Polanski\u2019s 1974 opus \u201cChinatown,\u201d a film that still makes the top of critics\u2019 all-time best movies lists.
