Here are four things to know about the province\u2019s municipal election results.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1761814748_447_70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Montrealers have voted for change<\/p>\n<p>After eight years of the left-wing government of outgoing Mayor Val\u00e9rie Plante, Montrealers have chosen centrist candidate Soraya Martinez Ferrada as the city\u2019s new mayor. Martinez Ferrada, who arrived in Canada as a Chilean refugee in 1980, served in the cabinet of ex-prime minister Justin Trudeau before running to lead the Ensemble Montr\u00e9al party.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tSoraya Martinez Ferrada waves to supporters after being elected mayor of Montreal during the municipal election in Montreal on Monday, Nov. 3, 2025.\t\t\t\t <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tTHE CANADIAN PRESS\/Christinne Muschi\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>With more than 80 per cent of polls reporting, Martinez Ferrada had 43 per cent of the vote, compared with 36 per cent for Luc Rabouin, leader of Plante\u2019s party. Here are some hints\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ex-federal politicians running Quebec cities<\/p>\n<p>Other than Soraya Martinez Ferrada, another former member of Trudeau\u2019s cabinet will be running a big city in Quebec. Marie-Claude Bibeau, who has held the national revenue, agriculture and international development portfolios, was elected mayor of Sherbrooke, in the Eastern Townships region. She was an MP between 2015-2021.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tMore on Politics<br \/>\n\t\t\tMore videos\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Steven Blaney, who was a minister in the Conservative federal government of Stephen Harper, has been elected mayor of L\u00e9vis, located on the south shore of Quebec City.
