Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson<\/a> shared their two cents on the watershed changes coming to LIV Golf<\/a> next year.<\/p>\n On Tuesday, the Saudi-backed league announced that it will be transitioning all its events to a 72-hole format<\/a> despite initially setting itself apart with three-day, 54-hole competitions.<\/p>\n Beginning next season, LIV Golf tournaments will take place over the course of four days starting on the Thursday of event weeks. In the case of LIV Golf Riyadh, play will begin on Wednesday, February 4.<\/p>\n During the regular season, individual competition will feature 72 holes of stroke play with team competition \u2014 which is still slated to run concurrently \u2014 being determined by each golf club\u2019s cumulative individual stroke play.<\/p>\n READ MORE: Chiefs coach asks Josh Allen to retire immediately after Bills game<\/a>READ MORE: Kai Trump may have let Donald Trump secret slip after concerns over president’s health<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cAs we enter our fourth season as a League, the move to 72 holes marks a pivotal new chapter for LIV Golf that strengthens our League, challenges our elite field of players, and delivers more of the world-class golf, energy, innovation and access that our global audience wants,\u201d LIV Golf CEO Scott O\u2019Neil said in an official statement.<\/p>\n \u201c We\u2019re seeing upward momentum and traction from Hong Kong to Adelaide to Indianapolis, and that heightened interest opens the door to add another day of golf while benefiting our fans, players, marketing partners, and our global media partners.<\/p>\n \u201cThe most successful leagues around the world \u2014 IPL, EPL, NBA, MLB, NFL \u2014 continue to innovate and evolve their product, and as an emerging league, we are no different,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n \u201cLIV Golf will always have an eye towards progress that acts in the best interest of LIV Golf and in the best interest of the sport.\u201d<\/p>\n The notable revision was warmly welcomed by some of the biggest names in LIV Golf \u2014 many of whom have plummeted down the Official World Golf Ranking leaderboard upon defecting to the rival circuit.<\/p>\n OWGR points serve a pivotal role in helping players obtain entry into major championships, hence why LIV Golf is actively seeking inclusion in the ranking system.<\/p>\n \u201cEveryone wants to see the best players in the world competing against each other, especially in the majors, and for the good of the game, we need a path forward,” DeChambeau<\/a> said.<\/p>\n \u201cBy moving to 72 holes, LIV Golf is taking a proactive step to align with the historic format recognized globally.
