A home-field Western Final is a delightful 10th-anniversary present for Jorgen Hus.<\/a><\/p>\n

But the 36-year-old long snapper \u2014\u00a0the Saskatchewan Roughriders\u2019 longest-serving active player \u2014\u00a0hopes for even better things well beyond Saturday\u2019s CFL playoff clash with the B.C. Lions (5:30 p.m., Mosaic Stadium).<\/a><\/p>\n

The winner will advance to the 112th Grey Cup Game, to be played Nov. 16 at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is as good a shot as we\u2019ve had, I believe, in the last decade,\u201d Hus says, \u201cso I\u2019m really looking forward to seeing how it goes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hus is preparing for his fifth division final since becoming a Roughrider in 2015.<\/p>\n

In 2017, Saskatchewan made the playoffs as a crossover team and advanced to the Eastern Final against the Toronto Argonauts, who won 25-21. Late in the fourth quarter, the Roughriders were one defensive stop shy of advancing to the Grey Cup.<\/p>\n

Two years later, the 13-5 Roughriders finished first in the West and played host to the division final. Again, there was heartbreak. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers celebrated a 20-13 victory after Saskatchewan\u2019s last pass, on the final play of the game, hit Mosaic Stadium\u2019s north-end crossbar.<\/p>\n

With a Grey Cup berth being contested, the Roughriders and Blue Bombers met in Winnipeg in 2021 and 2024.<\/p>\n

Even after Winnipeg won 38-22 last November, Hus travelled to Vancouver during Grey Cup Week. He received the CFL\u2019s Jake Gaudaur Veterans\u2019 Award, recognizing exemplary strength, perseverance, courage, comradeship and contribution to Canadian communities.<\/p>\n

As much as Hus appreciated the award, he wanted to be at the Grey Cup Festival with all his teammates. One more win will send everyone to the Manitoba capital.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is such a great group,\u201d Hus says in advance of his 149th consecutive game. \u201cWhen you\u2019ve got a group like this and a coaching staff like this and we\u2019re doing so well, it\u2019s not hard to get out of bed and get motivated.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just enjoying it more than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Saskatoon-born Hus, a graduate of the University of Regina Rams, joined the Roughriders on May 11, 2015 when he was acquired from Edmonton for receiver Cory Watson.<\/p>\n

At that time, the Roughriders had two seasons of tenancy remaining at historic Mosaic Stadium.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels like the last 10 years has flown by in all parts of my life,\u201d Hus marvels. \u201cWhen I think back to my rookie year and snapping with Paul McCallum kicking, that seems like ages ago, too.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been so fortunate to stay healthy and I\u2019ve just been having a lot of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hus, who has 167 regular-season games to his good name, is 26th on the Roughriders\u2019 All-Time list.<\/p>\n

Another season of a full 18 games would move him into an 18th-place tie with Mike McCullough and, suitably, McCallum.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s kind of funny how it changes,\u201d Hus reflects. \u201cYou come in as a rookie and the lights are bright and everything. As the years go by, everything kind of quiets down, slows down. You see things slower on the field and you get better because of that.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m playing at a position where you can literally keep getting better at it throughout your career. I\u2019m lucky that way, too.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re not having this much fun, you probably don\u2019t play this long, but I\u2019m having a blast and I\u2019m hoping this year ends the way we all want it to.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A home-field Western Final is a delightful 10th-anniversary present for Jorgen Hus.
