Even as New York City mayoral-race polls<\/a> started to point to a victory for Zohran Mamdani<\/a> last night, Andrew Cuomo\u2019s biggest fans<\/a> refused to give up the fight. One of the most recognizable faces advocating for Cuomo in the final moments before the polls closed was Debra Messing, who has spent the past 48 hours posting Islamophobic content and misinformation about Mamdani on her Instagram Story.<\/p>\n Messing participated in early voting last week, writing in a post that she opted for Cuomo because \u201cwe need someone with experience.\u201d \u201cOur city is too massive, complex, and consequential to have someone 33 years old who has never held a job, and missed 80% of his votes as Councilman,\u201d Messing wrote<\/a> on Instagram. \u201cPerhaps with more experience. But not now.\u201d<\/p>\n Her reposts on Election Day, however, showed a much more extreme\u00a0perspective. Before the race was called, Messing, who is Jewish and a staunch advocate for Israel, shared a barrage of graphics and videos\u00a0warning Jewish people not to vote for Mamdani owing to his pro-Palestine beliefs. When she wasn\u2019t fearmongering in that direction, she was being blatantly Islamophobic. One graphic she reposted read, \u201cA vote for Sliwa is a vote for Mamdani is a vote for New-York-Stan.\u201d Another featured a ballot on which the options were \u201cA Democrat\u201d and \u201cAn Actual Communist Jihadist \u2026 A literal Karl Marx-quoting, America-hating jihadist.\u201d (This image was also posted to X on Monday by none other than Senator Ted Cruz.) It\u2019s worth noting Mamdani is not a communist but a democratic socialist.<\/p>\n debra messing has posted 100 instagram stories in the past 24 hours pic.twitter.com\/500GtoFu1I<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 chris randle (@randlechris) November 4, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n On Monday, Messing shared a post<\/a> from an account called @joanofjudea, which claimed that while Judaism and Christianity encourage honesty, Muslims are \u201ccommanded to lie if it means spreading Islam.\u201d \u201cHe\u2019s revealing their goal: Mass conversion,\u201d the post read. \u201cThese two opposing civilizations cannot coexist.\u201d<\/p>\n Other posts that appeared on Messing\u2019s Story came from conservative outlets such as CPAC, Breitbart, and Newsmax. She also shared multiple posts about President Donald Trump endorsing Cuomo, as well as screenshots of Trump\u2019s Truth Social posts about the election, including one in which he wrote<\/a>, \u201cAny Jewish person that votes for Zohran Mamdani, a proven and self professed JEW HATER, is a stupid person!!!\u201d Mamdani has condemned antisemitism many times throughout his campaign.<\/p>\n it\u2019s funny how Debra Messing, one of Hillary Clinton\u2019s biggest supporters, is now just straight up promoting Donald Trump\u2019s endorsement of Andrew Cuomo because she\u2019s just that Islamophobic and anti-Zohran Mamdani<\/p>\n she\u2019s sharing Breitbart, CPAC, & Newsmax posts! pic.twitter.com\/gWrALiwvUA<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Matt Binder (@MattBinder) November 4, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n Messing\u2019s screeds are not entirely surprising, considering she posted similarly offensive content on Instagram in June during the primaries. In one comment<\/a> she wrote then, she accused Mamdani of celebrating 9\/11 and called him a \u201cmayor who sides with terrorists.\u201d<\/p>\n At what point does someone step in and delete Instagram from her phone? The human brain was not meant to repost that many Reels, let alone ones using Islamophobic tropes to fearmonger among her fellow New Yorkers.
