While many of Canada\u2019s business sectors have struggled in recent months\u00a0due\u00a0to ongoing trade\u00a0tensions\u00a0with the U.S.,\u00a0the summer of 2025 is one\u00a0that\u00a0those in the\u00a0nation\u2019s\u00a0tourism\u00a0industry\u00a0won\u2019t\u00a0soon forget.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0a recent\u00a0news\u00a0release\u00a0from\u00a0Destination Canada,\u00a0between May and August 2025, Canada\u2019s tourism sector\u00a0netted\u00a0nearly $60B, setting\u00a0an all-time record.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0revenue was\u00a0due in large part to\u00a0Canadian\u00a0travellers\u00a0opting\u00a0to explore\u00a0their\u00a0own\u00a0country\u00a0in record numbers.\u00a0Canadians travelling outside of their home province\u00a0accounted for the highest domestic growth.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In addition, an increase in international interest also helped account for the record summer, particularly from overseas markets, where visitor spending grew by 10 per cent. Also of note, international visitors are spending more per trip.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to Destination Canada, total revenue for the nation\u2019s tourism sector between May and August 2025 was $59B. Canadian travellers accounted for $44.4B, while international travellers contributed $14.6B.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Representing a six per cent year-over-year overall increase, the economic benefits of the stellar season were felt across the entire country.<\/p>\n

Canada\u2019s national museums and parks also enjoyed an increase in visits this year compared to 2024, thanks in part to the Canada Strong Pass<\/a>, which was introduced by the federal government in June to boost tourism amid Canadians\u2019 reaction to growing tensions with the U.S.<\/p>\n

The pass, which allows children or young adults travelling by Via Rail or visiting any participating Parks Canada site, museum, or gallery to benefit from free admissions or discounts, will return for summer 2026.<\/p>\n

Numbers provided to Postmedia by the Department of Canadian Heritage show national museums and the Plains of Abraham Museum in Quebec City had an average increase in attendance of 10 to 15 per cent, and the total number of visits was 635,180.<\/p>\n

In addition, 86 territorial and provincial museums and sites offered the Canada Strong Pass across nine provinces and territories during the summer, welcoming almost 1.6 million visitors between June 20 and Sept. 2. Overall, these museums reported a 26 per cent increase in visitors under the age of 17 and a 21 per cent increase in visitors aged 18 to 24 between June 20 and Sept. 2, compared to the same period in 2024.<\/p>\n

On Sept. 2, Canadian Heritage reported early indications for 2025 showed visits to Parks Canada sites increased by 10 per cent. In addition, Via Rail Canada reported in excess of 50,000 Canada Strong Pass bookings by Sept. 2.<\/p>\n

With regards to the Canadian tourism sector\u2019s\u00a0overall\u00a0record season, Destination Canada\u00a0stated,\u00a0\u201cThe overall strength, resilience and geographic reach achieved this summer point to a new phase of opportunity for Canada\u2019s tourism sector.\u201d<\/p>\n
