After landing on the Bakersfield Condors\u2019 opening day roster, it hasn\u2019t been a smooth start to the 2025-26 season for Edmonton Oilers\u2019 top defensive prospect Beau Akey<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In fact, he\u2019s yet to even play in any of the Condors\u2019 nine games so far this season as he\u2019s worked his way back from injury.<\/p>\n

But Akey has been cleared, Condors PR guy Ryan Holt posted<\/a> Wednesday, and has since been assigned to the ECHL\u2019s Fort Wayne Komets<\/a>.It\u2019s been tough sledding for the 20-year-old since being drafted in the second round of the 2023 draft by the Oilers, suffering a season-ending shoulder injury<\/a> 14 games into the 2023-24 season. He played in 52 of the OHL Barrie Colts\u2019 68 games last season, and another early season injury this year has set him back.<\/p>\n

He\u2019ll join a Komets team light on offensive defencemen, so there won\u2019t be a lack of playing time. The Komets are visiting the Florida Everblades Wednesday night and will face them again on Friday and Saturday, but due to the way the league is scheduled, they won\u2019t play again until the following weekend.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unknown how long he\u2019ll be with the Komets for, but at the very least it will provide him an opportunity to get his feet underneath him against some softer competition.<\/p>\n

The Komets are off to a hot start this season, going 5-1 in their first six games sitting atop the Western Conference. That\u2019s in part due to the tremendous goaltending they\u2019ve received from Oilers prospects Samuel Jonsson and Nathaniel Day.<\/p>\n

Jonsson has posted a 3-0 record, a 1.67 goals against average and a .932 save percentage, while Day has posted a 2-1 record, a 2.03 goals against average and a .909 save percentage.<\/p>\n

Oilers prospects James Stefan, Jayden Grubbe and Brady Stonehouse have all been solid offensively to start the year, too. Stefan has posted four goals and five points, Grubbe a goal and five points and Stonehouse two goals and three points, all in six games.<\/p>\n
