Legacy Motor Club announces Jimmie Johnson will race at Naval Base Coronado<\/p>\n
7-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson has announced his intention to run a race in 2026. He\u2019ll be in the entry list in the inaugural\u00a0NASCAR San Diego Weekend.<\/p>\n
The event will run from June 19-21 at the Naval Base Coronado. It marks the first race at the track and for Johnson it joined the \u201cbucket list\u201d as he grew up in nearby El Cajon, California.<\/p>\n

Over the last three season\u2019s he has run 14 races part-time for Legacy Motor Club, the team he co-owns.<\/p>\n In 2025, Johnson picked up his first top-5 since 2020 via his 3rd place run in the Daytona 500.<\/p>\n Johnson becomes majority owner of Legacy Motor Club<\/a><\/p>\n Jimmie Johnson comments<\/p>\n \u201cGrowing up just miles from San Diego, I dreamed about racing here in a NASCAR vehicle someday, but I never thought it would be possible,\u201d Jimmie Johnson stated via the team release.<\/p>\n \u201cI just came to the realization that there would be no way NASCAR could race in that city \u2013 as there would be nowhere to\u00a0put a track,\u201d said Johnson. \u201cSo, it\u2019s just mind-blowing to me that NASCAR made this a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cTo come back home, compete in front of my community, the military, my family, and friends, and do it with Carvana and LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, this is one of those full-circle experiences I will never forget.
