{"id":266570,"date":"2025-11-06T23:42:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T23:42:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/266570\/"},"modified":"2025-11-06T23:42:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T23:42:07","slug":"tigers-decline-2026-options-on-paul-sewald-jose-urquidy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/266570\/","title":{"rendered":"Tigers decline 2026 options on Paul Sewald, Jose Urquidy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DETROIT &#8212; Pitchers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/35009\/paul-sewald\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Sewald<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/35759\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jose Urquidy<\/a> became free agents Friday after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/det\/detroit-tigers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Detroit Tigers<\/a> declined their 2026 options.<\/p>\n<p>Detroit also declined the option on pitcher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/42214\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Randy Dobnak<\/a>, who made his only major league appearance this year on March 30 for Minnesota and was obtained from the Twins in late July.<\/p>\n<p>Sewald gets a $1 million buyout as part of a $7 million, one-year deal instead of the $10 million called for in his mutual option.<\/p>\n<p>Acquired from Cleveland at the trade deadline, the 35-year-old right-hander had a 4.58 ERA in 22 relief appearances. He didn&#8217;t pitch between July 11 and Sept. 19 because of a strained right shoulder.<\/p>\n<p>Detroit declined a $4 million club option on Urquidy, who returned Sept. 14 from Tommy John surgery in the first of two big league appearances.
