NORTHFIELD, Minn. \u2013 The third-seeded St. Olaf College women’s soccer team fell to second-seeded Carleton College, 1-0, on a goal in the final minute of the first overtime in the semifinals of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoffs on Thursday afternoon at Bell Field.<\/p>\n

With time winding down in the first 10-minute overtime period, Lola Feurer scored shortly after a corner kick to send Carleton (15-2-2) into the championship game at top-seeded St. Catherine University on Saturday. The loss likely brought an end to the season for St. Olaf (15-3-2), which was ranked No. 39 in the most recent update to the NCAA Power Index (NPI). The 21 highest-ranked teams in the NPI, after the automatic qualifiers are removed, will earn at-large bids into the NCAA Tournament.<\/p>\n

If the season is indeed over, it was a record-setting one in many ways for the Oles. St. Olaf set single-season program records in wins (15), points (143), goals (49), assists (45), shots (395), and goals-against average (0.55), while posting the second-highest totals in program history in shots on goal (186) and shutouts (12).<\/p>\n

Carleton outshot St. Olaf by a 25-9 margin overall in the game, although the difference in shots on goal was just 5-2. After being outshot 9-2 in the opening half, the Oles generated seven shots in the second half, but the Knights were credited with all seven of the shots in the overtime period.<\/p>\n

St. Olaf was inches from going ahead late in regulation when junior Emily Johnson’s<\/a> shot in the 84th minute took a deflection and hit the post, with Carleton goalkeeper Avery Trapp left watching due to the big deflection. First year Charlotte Percy<\/a> produced the biggest of her four saves in the game inside the first minute of overtime, getting down to turn aside a shot by Feurer that was headed towards the lower-right corner.<\/p>\n

Percy again denied Feurer in the 99th minute, directing the ball out for a corner kick in the final minute of the first overtime. The Oles cleared the initial corner, but Zaraya Jordan took a long-range shot that deflected off Ashlyn Haigh and into the box to Feurer, who slotted the ball into the lower-left corner for the game-winning goal.<\/p>\n

The field for the NCAA Tournament will be announced via a selection show on NCAA.com at 10 a.m. CST on Monday, Nov. 10.
