There\u2019s no shortage of scandalous Ozzy Osbourne<\/a> stories out there, from pissing on the Alamo to biting a head off of a bat live onstage. However, there\u2019s also one antic that nearly joined that impressive list of wild displays, but was prevented at the last minute. Black Sabbath<\/a>\u2019s Prince Of Darkness once plotted with Iron Maiden<\/a> frontman Bruce Dickinson<\/a> to steal a taxi, before the pair were rumbled and cooler \u2013 or, rather, more sober \u2013 heads prevailed.<\/p>\n

Dickinson told the anecdote during an appearance on the short-lived UK chat show Clarkson, hosted by controversial ex-Top Gear man Jeremy Clarkson from 1998 to 2000. On the programme, the topic of classic rock \u2019n\u2019 roll excess came up. \u201cYou knocked around with Ozzy Osbourne offstage, didn\u2019t you?\u201d Clarkson asked. \u201cThat must have been chaotic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dickinson instantly proved the presenter right when he replied: \u201cI\u2019d had a drink, this was a long time ago, and Oz suggested that we nick a taxi.\u201d The singer doesn\u2019t provide a timeframe for the evening, but let\u2019s be honest: this was definitely in the 1980s.<\/p>\n

The story starts with (a presumably drunk) Dickinson locked in his hotel room (presumably for his own good). \u201cThey locked me in my room and I escaped out the window and went to the bar,\u201d he remembered. \u201cThere was nobody in it, so I sat down and thought: \u2018When somebody comes, they\u2019d better have a drink.\u2019 I ordered 50 beers and sat there.<\/p>\n

\u201cOz comes in with his entourage,\u201d Dickinson continued, \u201cand the first thing he said to me was \u2018I\u2019ve given up drinking. I\u2019ve stopped.\u2019\u201d He breaks into a wicked grin: \u201cThen he sat down and went, \u2018I\u2019ll have a double brandy please!\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cHe had a couple beers and said to me, \u2018Let\u2019s nick a taxi.\u2019 I asked, \u2018How you gonna do that?\u2019 He said, \u2018Well, you call it and I\u2019ll distract him \u2013 no, you distract him and I\u2019ll hit him over the head! Can you drive?\u2019 When I said yes he went, \u2018Good, I can\u2019t.\u2019\u201d Most worryingly, Ozzy apparently then added: \u201cIt\u2019s alright, I\u2019ve done it before.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sadly, someone \u2013 somehow \u2013 was able to stop this airtight plan. \u201cI think somebody overheard our conversation and rumbled it,\u201d Dickinson lamented.<\/p>\n
