Justin Bieber\u2019s seventh studio album \u201cSwag\u201d has put him among the top Canadian Grammy contenders this year.<\/p>\n
The Stratford, Ont.-raised pop singer picked up four nominations Friday for the upcoming Grammy Awards, including album of the year and best pop vocal album for his first project since cutting ties with longtime manager Scooter Braun.<\/p>\n
Homegrown producer Cirkut and engineer-mixer Serban Ghenea were also standouts as they scored multiple nods in the album and record of the year categories for work on several projects, including Lady Gaga\u2019s latest album \u201cMayhem.\u201d<\/p>\n
Two songs from Bieber\u2019s \u201cSwag\u201d also earned recognition. \u201cDaisies\u201d is among the best pop solo performance nominees, while \u201cYukon\u201d is up for best R&B performance.<\/p>\n
Bieber\u2019s return to music kicked off over the summer with the surprise release of \u201cSwag,\u201d which he quickly followed up with \u201cSwag II\u201d in September. The latter album will be eligible for next year\u2019s Grammys.<\/p>\n
Several other Canadian superstars earned attention from the music industry\u2019s biggest awards show.<\/p>\n
Toronto duo PartyNextDoor and Drake got a nod for best melodic rap performance for \u201cSomebody Loves Me,\u201d from their collaborative album \u201cSome Sexy Songs 4 U.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kaytranada, born Louis Celestin, earned two nominations \u2014 best dance\/electronic recording for \u201cSpace Invader\u201d and best remixed recording for his spin on Mariah Carey \u201cDon\u2019t Forget About Us.\u201d<\/p>\n
Calgary\u2019s Tate McRae vies for best dance pop recording with \u201cJust Keep Watching\u201d from the movie soundtrack for \u201cF1,\u201d the Brad Pitt Formula 1 racing drama.<\/p>\n
One Canadian star is notably missing from the list of nominees. <\/p>\n
The latest album from the Weeknd, \u201cHurry Up Tomorrow,\u201d got a cold reception from Grammy voters, only a year after the Toronto artist buried the hatchet with the organization.<\/p>\n
In 2021, the Weeknd pledged a boycott of the Grammys after he was shut out of nominations, calling them \u201ccorrupt,\u201d but he seemed to end that feud last year with a surprise performance on the broadcast. It did little to sway Grammy voters on his latest record, which received no nominations.<\/p>\n
Halifax songwriter and producer Henry Walter, better known as Cirkut, racked up seven nods across several categories, including non-classical producer of the year.<\/p>\n
His work on Gaga\u2019s \u201cMayhem\u201d put him in the running for album of the year, and he\u2019s named twice in both the song of the year and record of the year categories for his work on her track \u201cAbracadabra\u201d and \u201cApt.\u201d by Ros\u00e9 and Bruno Mars.<\/p>\n
Ghenea, meanwhile, is all over the record of the year category with nominations for his work on Sabrina Carpenter\u2019s \u201cManchild,\u201d \u201cAbracadabra\u201d and \u201cApt.\u201d<\/p>\n
He\u2019s also up for album of the year for \u201cMayhem\u201d and Carpenter\u2019s \u201cMan\u2019s Best Friend,\u201d and named in the best dance pop recording category for mixing Gaga\u2019s \u201cAbracadabra.\u201d<\/p>\n
Vancouver musician Laila Biali\u2019s \u201cWintersongs,\u201d a collection of music inspired by a winter spent in Banff, Alta., is nominated for traditional pop vocal album.<\/p>\n
The 68th Grammy Awards air Feb. 1, 2026 on Citytv and CBS.<\/p>\n
