{"id":271771,"date":"2025-11-09T09:15:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-09T09:15:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/271771\/"},"modified":"2025-11-09T09:15:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-09T09:15:08","slug":"elena-rybakina-declines-photo-with-womens-tennis-chief-at-wta-tour-finals-trophy-ceremony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/271771\/","title":{"rendered":"Elena Rybakina declines photo with women\u2019s tennis chief at WTA Tour Finals trophy ceremony"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6789352\/2025\/11\/08\/sabalenka-rybakina-wta-tour-finals-result-analysis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WTA Tour Finals champion Elena Rybakina<\/a> declined a photo with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6789538\/2025\/11\/08\/wta-tour-finals-saudi-arabia-deal-chief-executive\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WTA Tour chief executive Portia Archer<\/a> during Saturday\u2019s trophy ceremony in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in the wake of the tour\u2019s investigation into her coach, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6542878\/2025\/08\/08\/elena-rybakina-coach-suspension-lifted-stefano-vukov-wta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stefano Vukov<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rybakina posed with runner-up Aryna Sabalenka, whom she had defeated 6-3, 7-6(0), but when Archer joined Sabalenka, Rybakina stood away to the right-hand side of the duo. Rybakina initially declined to comment when asked about the snub in her news conference, but when asked again \u2014 and asked whether or not she had had discussions with the tour about the investigation \u2014 she said: \u201cWell, I think we\u2019re all doing our job, and we had the opportunity to have conversations, but in the end, they never happened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo we\u2019re all doing our job, and I think we\u2019re going to keep it this way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The WTA provisionally suspended Vukov from coaching and obtaining credentials for WTA events last fall, before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6035283\/2025\/02\/11\/stefano-vukov-wta-ban-report-elena-rybakina-coach\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">barring him for one year<\/a> following the conclusion of a code of conduct investigation.<\/p>\n<p>In a confidential letter summarizing the investigation which was obtained by\u00a0The Athletic, Archer summarized Vukov\u2019s violations as: \u201cEngaging in abuse of authority and abusive conduct towards the WTA Player, including compromising or attempting to compromise the psychological, physical or emotional well-being of the Player; engaging in physical and verbal abuse of the Player; and, exploiting your relationship with the Player for further personal and\/or business interests at the expense of the best interest of the Player.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the investigation, Rybakina publicly maintained that Vukov had \u201cnever mistreated her,\u201d and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6396240\/2025\/06\/01\/tennis-elena-rybakina-coach-vukov-ban-wta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">coach appealed the suspension<\/a> ahead of this year\u2019s French Open. It was lifted in August, after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6542878\/2025\/08\/08\/elena-rybakina-coach-suspension-lifted-stefano-vukov-wta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vukov and the WTA entered into private arbitration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>His violations included refusing to leave Rybakina\u2019s New York hotel in 2024 after a representative for the player told him he had been fired. Vukov flooded Rybakina\u2019s phone with text messages and more than 100 calls \u2014 according to sources with personal and professional relationships with Rybakina who were present at the hotel \u2014 as he sought another chance to convince Rybakina that her tennis career could not thrive without him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDefinitely never abused anyone,\u201d Vukov wrote in a text message sent to The Athletic in January.<\/p>\n<p>Rybakina thanked Vukov when she won the Strasbourg International in May, her first title in 13 months, when he was still barred from coaching and attending events.
