RALEIGH, N.C.-\u00a0The\u00a0No.\u00a06-seed\u00a0Syracuse men’s soccer team (9-6-3,\u00a04-3-1)\u00a0upset No.\u00a03-seed NC State\u00a0(12-2-4, 4-1-3)\u00a0in the Quarterfinal Round of the ACC Championship\u00a03-0. Orange goals\u00a0by\u00a0Sachiel Ming<\/a>,\u00a0Carlos Zambrano<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Chimere Omeze<\/a>\u00a0put ‘Cuse past the Wolfpack,\u00a0who\u00a0had\u00a0previously\u00a0allowed four goals all season.\u00a0
\u00a0<\/p>\n

HOW IT HAPPENED\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Orange defense kept up with the Wolfpack’s energy as they denied multiple scoring opportunities for the No.5 team in the country, including\u00a0Tim Brdaric<\/a>‘s\u00a0denial\u00a0in the net in the\u00a034th\u00a0minute.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After a scoreless first half,\u00a0Syracuse came out of the locker room to change the intensity of the game.\u00a0In the 52nd\u00a0minute,\u00a0Kristjan Fortier<\/a>\u00a0passed the ball over to\u00a0Omeze\u00a0who found Ming through the crowd of defenders. Ming snuck in with a left-foot rocket to send the ball past NC State goalkeeper,\u00a0Logan Erb.\u00a0
\u00a0<\/p>\n

A corner kick was awarded to Syracuse in the 69th\u00a0minute.\u00a0Zambrano took the ball from the\u00a0corner, striking it off the pole and sending it into the back of the net\u00a0for an Olimpico.\u00a0
\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tomas Hut<\/a>\u00a0continued to guard the net as he tallied nine saves by the end of the night. Despite Philip Donovan’s close shot attempt\u00a0in the 73rd\u00a0minute, Hut dove\u00a0to save the goal attempt. Taig Healy found the\u00a0ball, but\u00a0sent it off the goal post to set up his teammate\u00a0Aidan Payne for the finishing shot. Hut dove\u00a0again, rejecting the third attempt.\u00a0

Omeze\u00a0hustled down the field on a breakaway in the\u00a086th\u00a0minute. Erb tried to close in on the defender who sent the ball right past him and into the unguarded net.\u00a0
\u00a0<\/p>\n

OF NOTE\u00a0<\/p>\n

Wolfpack goalkeeper Logan Erb had only allowed four goals all season\u00a0prior\u00a0to tonight’s contest.\u00a0Sachiel Ming<\/a>\u00a0is responsible for\u00a0two of Erb’s now-seven allowed goals.\u00a0Carlos Zambrano’s<\/a>\u00a0goal\u00a0was the second Olimpico he has collected this season. Goalkeeper\u00a0Tomas Hut<\/a>\u00a0recorded nine saves, the most in his career, while also tallying his\u00a0ninth shutout of the season. The Wolfpack\u00a0outshot the Orange 20-12. SU had\u00a0seven\u00a0shots on target. The Orange\u00a0have\u00a0outscored\u00a0their\u00a0opponents 5-1\u00a0in the postseason. NC State\u00a0had seven corner kick attempts compared to Syracuse’s five.\u00a0<\/p>\n

UP NEXT\u00a0<\/p>\n

Syracuse will move on to the Semifinal Round of the ACC Championship and will face the winner of the No.2-seed Stanford and No.7-seed SMU match on Thursday, Nov. 13. The Semifinal and Final rounds of the ACC Championship will be held at First Horizon Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. This is the first time the Orange\u00a0have\u00a0played in the ACC Semifinal Round since 2023.\u00a0
