{"id":274206,"date":"2025-11-10T12:59:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-10T12:59:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/274206\/"},"modified":"2025-11-10T12:59:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T12:59:08","slug":"what-is-more-important-than-being-creative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/274206\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;What Is More Important Than Being Creative?&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAs Hollywood reckons with the encroachment of generative <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/ai\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ai\" data-tag=\"ai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI<\/a> in the filmmaking process \u2014 from <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/11\/tilly-norwood-creator-interview-backlash-more-ai-actors-coming-1236601334\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">artificial intelligence \u201cactress\u201d Tilly Norwood<\/a> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/09\/ai-the-end-of-human-creativity-amazon-backed-startup-fable-orson-welles-1236504257\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">launch of AI-powered platform Showrunner<\/a> \u2014 factions have emerged dividing creators, writers, directors and producers firmly into pro and con camps. <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/vince-gilligan\/\" id=\"auto-tag_vince-gilligan\" data-tag=\"vince-gilligan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vince Gilligan<\/a>, the multi-award-winning creator behind <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/apple-tv\/\" id=\"auto-tag_apple-tv\" data-tag=\"apple-tv\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Apple TV<\/a>\u2018s newest hit <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/pluribus\/\" id=\"auto-tag_pluribus\" data-tag=\"pluribus\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pluribus<\/a>, is firmly in the latter group, expanding to Deadline on his previous comments about his distaste for AI and its \u201cdetriment\u201d to human creativity, what he views as the most important way people can assert their agency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI do not care for AI,\u201d he began in an interview tied to the release of Pluribus, the credits of which include <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/11\/pluribus-credits-made-by-humans-1236611581\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a disclaimer about the series being entirely human-made<\/a>, \u201cbut I\u2019ll try to be magnanimous and say that anytime a new technology is created, I have to believe that the central impetus of it is to make the world a better place. It\u2019s just that, as this technology progresses, I don\u2019t see how it will make the world a better place, but maybe it will, because I\u2019m wrong more than I\u2019m right. It depends on what the heck you\u2019re creating a technology for, but more and more, it just seems to be clear, either explicitly or implicitly, that this technology is being designed to take work away, creativity away, creative endeavor away from human beings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIndeed, many tech CEOs have been <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/the-end-of-work-as-we-know-it-2000635294\" target=\"_blank\">openly hostile toward workers\u2019 rights<\/a> and nonchalant about their AI products\u2019 potential impact on the already suffering job market. Edward Saatchi, CEO of the Amazon-backed Fable, which bills itself as the \u201cNetflix of AI,\u201d has signaled that he sees the tech as \u201cpossibly the end of human creativity\u201d \u2014 a statement he does not view as alarming. Meanwhile, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has floated the idea that any jobs curtailed or entirely eliminated by AI <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/artificial-intelligence\/sam-altman-real-work-ai\" target=\"_blank\">may not have even constituted \u201creal work\u201d to begin with<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tGilligan said of his disconcertment with the technology: \u201cWhen your selling point is: \u2018This thing is great, it\u2019ll write your high school essays for you, it\u2019ll create your artwork for you if you\u2019re an artist, so you don\u2019t have to actually learn how to draw and paint anymore \u2026 You don\u2019t ever need to learn how to read a map or use a compass \u2026 this thing will wipe your butt for you.\u2019 What\u2019s left to live for? The creative spark in human beings \u2014 it\u2019s one of the most precious, wonderful things we have. What is more important than being creative?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul creator noted that \u201ceverybody is a storyteller,\u201d not just those \u201clucky enough\u201d to be paid to create on a large scale like himself. \u201cWe\u2019re all telling stories. We\u2019re telling the stories to each other of who we are. We\u2019re listening to stories from people we love and people we hate, and they\u2019re, all of them, important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe four-time Emmy winner cautioned about what would be lost should everyone cede their talents to a machine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019m talking about everyone who will be robbed by this, not just the fat cats who, like myself, make a living at it; anyone who gives up any kind of painting or music creation or writing \u2014 you\u2019re giving up a part of yourself,\u201d he said. \u201cIf you elect to have a machine do those things for you, you\u2019re losing something. You\u2019re losing a part of yourself. You\u2019re losing an agency, to use a word from Pluribus, that you would otherwise possess, that you no longer have at your disposal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWhile the multi-hyphenate said he\u2019s \u201csure there\u2019s a place for AI\u201d \u2014 though perhaps not in writing \u2014 and that he\u2019s attempting to be \u201copen-minded \u2026 I just don\u2019t see the benefit, I only see the detriment. And I\u2019m not even talking about the, like, Skynet and The Terminator. I think before it ever gets to that, we\u2019re not even going to want to live because our creative spark has been taken away from us, and no one knows how to construct a sentence anymore, no one knows how to think critically because this stuff has taken over. But I\u2019m not worried, oddly enough, about the Terminator outcome, because we have not reached the singularity yet, as much as some of these sales departments of these AI companies would tell us otherwise. That this thing does not think, it has no consciousness, it knows as much about what it\u2019s creating for us \u2014 writing, drawing \u2014 as my toaster oven knows about the toast it\u2019s currently heating up for me. It doesn\u2019t know anything. It\u2019s a hell of a parlor trick. It\u2019s like the world\u2019s most expensive parlor [trick].\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWhen I mentioned that a colleague of his, <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/guillermo-del-toro\/\" id=\"auto-tag_guillermo-del-toro\" data-tag=\"guillermo-del-toro\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Guillermo del Toro<\/a>, has expressed similar staunch anti-AI sentiments \u2014 with the Frankenstein helmer <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/10\/guillermo-del-toro-would-rather-die-than-use-generative-ai-1236597071\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">saying he\u2019d \u201crather die\u201d than participate in the AI hype<\/a> \u2014 Gilligan said, \u201cI love Guillermo del Toro, what a genius he is. Please quote me on that, because he\u2019s an international treasure.
