\n\tOscar Isaac<\/a> told Variety<\/a> in late August before the world premiere of \u201cFrankenstein\u201d at the Venice Film Festival that he was more than open to returning as Poe Dameron in a future \u201cStar Wars<\/a>\u201d movie. Isaac played the dashing X-wing fighter pilot in three \u201cStar Wars\u201d films from 2015 to 2019. But returning to the Disney-owned franchise got a little more complicated for Isaac just a few weeks later, when Disney-owned ABC pulled Jimmy Kimmel off the air <\/a>over comments he made about the shooting death of Charlie Kirk.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a new interview with GQ magazine<\/a>, Isaac was asked about returning to \u201cStar Wars\u201d and had this new clarification to add: \u201cYeah. I mean, I\u2019d be open to it, although right now I\u2019m not so open to working with Disney. But if they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great\u2026 if that happens, then yeah, I\u2019d be open to having a conversation about a galaxy far away. Or any number of other things.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGQ notes the interview with Isaac \u201ctook place two days after ABC and Disney suspended production on \u2018Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> Live!\u2019\u00a0in response to Kimmel\u2019s comments about the death of Charlie Kirk.\u201d Kimmel returned to ABC four days after GQ\u2019s interview with Isaac.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn his Sept. 15\u00a0monologue<\/a>\u00a0shortly after Kirk\u2019s suspected killer was arrested, Kimmel quipped: \u201cWe hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them.\u201d The line got the late-night host suspended. When he returned to air on Sept. 23, an emotional Kimmel said it was never his intention \u201cto make light of the murder of a young man.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs for Isaac, the actor has come a long way since initially resisting the idea of returning as Poe Dameron in the \u201cStar Wars\u201d universe. Speaking on a Deadline panel <\/a>in 2020 a few months after the release of \u201cStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,\u201d Isaac noted that \u201cStar Wars\u201d movies were \u201cnot really what I set out to do\u201d as an actor.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhat I set out to do was to make handmade movies, and to work with people that inspire me,\u201d Isaac said, nothing that he would \u201cprobably\u201d not return to \u201cStar Wars\u201d but \u201cwho knows. [Maybe] if I need another house or something.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIsaac now admitted to GQ<\/a> that perhaps he should not have made such an opinion public, explaining: \u201cYeah. That was a real likable quote. Jesus Christ. Y\u2019know, people ask you things, you say stuff, you don\u2019t really think about it that much. I said a slightly dickish thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
