Adam Copeland has opened up about why he decided to leave WWE<\/a> for AEW.<\/p>\n

During his recent appearance on Inside The Ropes<\/a>, Adam Copeland (FKA Edge) was asked about why he decided to take the risk of doing something new by going to AEW following his return to in-ring competition in WWE in 2020.<\/p>\n

Adam Copeland replied that being in WWE would\u2019ve seen him work a limited number of matches a year. However, he wanted to do more, and knowing he only had a few years left as an in-ring performer, Copeland wanted to go to AEW<\/a> and be a constant presence in the company\u2019s storylines.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I think it\u2019s because it was just such a set, surefire thing, right? And it would\u2019ve been more of the same, which was fine, but I wanted to do more. And I knew the window was small, so if I was going to do it, let\u2019s do it more while I can.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to run this for five more. I don\u2019t want to be doing this until I\u2019m 56. I thought I\u2019m probably going to have 10 matches a year with WWE, or I can go over there and be involved every week. That sounds fun. That sounds like I can do more. I can try and be involved in more stories and be a constant presence, so that those stories can unfold properly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adam Copeland Said There Were A Lot Of Stop-Starts In His WWE Booking<\/p>\n

Adam Copeland further stated that there were inconsistencies with his WWE booking and that he decided to go to AEW to get in the ring with as many stars as possible and have fun before hanging up his boots for good.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause that was a lot of the thing, too, with WWE,\u201d Adam Copeland continued, \u201cIt just became okay I\u2019m in a year-long program with Judgment Day, but then they\u2019d write me off for three months, and then okay, here I\u2019m back again. It\u2019s just a lot of stop-start.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know the goal was to keep the character of Edge special, and I appreciate that, I do. But I also understand like we don\u2019t got much more time doing this. So, I want to get in with as many people as I can, and have fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adam Copeland has been away from AEW television since September 2025, and Tony Khan recently addressed rumors<\/a> of Copeland going back to WWE for one last match against John Cena.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
