La V\u00e9rendrye MLA Konrad Narth used his private members statement in the Manitoba legislature on November 6th to raise concerns about the province\u2019s slowing economy and the impact of government policies on businesses and investors.<\/p>\n
La V\u00e9rendrye representative speaks on business uncertainty<\/p>\n
Narth said he hears daily from Manitobans, including business owners, farmers, and investors, who are worried about uncertainty and challenges operating under the current New Democratic Party government.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey tell me about the uncertainty they feel. They tell me about the fear that exists around investing in Manitoba today,\u201d Narth said. \u201cThese are people who want to grow, to hire, to innovate. But instead of encouragement, they are met with red tape, indecision, and a government that is more interested in photo ops than in fostering real economic opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n
Economic growth lags behind other provinces<\/p>\n
Narth highlighted that Manitoba\u2019s GDP growth is only 1.1 per cent, the lowest of any province in Canada. He also pointed out that the province\u2019s ranking for mining exploration has dropped from sixth two years ago to 34th today.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe business climate in this province has cooled dramatically,\u201d he said. \u201cWhile other provinces are attracting new value-added agriculture projects, new mining exploration and manufacturing investment, Manitoba is being passed by.\u201d<\/p>\n
Criticism of government environmental plan<\/p>\n
Narth also criticized the province\u2019s Net Zero Plan, saying it has created further uncertainty for investors without achieving meaningful environmental outcomes.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a plan that is long in slogans but short on science, one that scares away investors without achieving a single meaningful environmental goal.\u201d<\/p>\n
Call for government action<\/p>\n
Narth urged the government to focus on job creation, competitiveness, and economic confidence instead of ideology.<\/p>\n
