Dave Mustaine<\/a> has revealed how long Megadeth<\/a>\u2018s farewell tour will last for.<\/p>\n

The legendary metal band announced their plans to retire earlier this year with a farewell album and tour.<\/a> \u201cThere\u2019s so many musicians that have come to the end of their career, whether accidental or intentional,\u201d Mustaine explained in a social media post. \u201cMost of them don\u2019t get to go out on their own terms on top, and that\u2019s where I\u2019m at in my life right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

So far, Megadeth have shared lead single \u2018Tipping Point\u2019<\/a> from their final album \u2013 and now, frontman Dave Mustaine has revealed how long they plan to tour for.<\/p>\n

In a new interview with\u00a0Kerrang!,<\/a> 64-year-old Mustaine estimated that the band\u2019s final tour would last \u201cfor another three to five years\u201d. He added: \u201cIf we\u2019re going to be doing it for that long then, shit, I\u2019ll be looking at the birthday I don\u2019t even want to think about!\u201d<\/p>\n

Further explaining his decision to play a farewell tour, Mustaine reasoned: \u201cI\u2019m not caught up in longevity and stuff like that, and being one of those guys who can play until he\u2019s in his 80s. I have to remember that people live and they die. And I need to take good care of myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

The band\u2019s farewell tour dates are yet to be announced.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Mustaine has previously revealed that the band will be covering Metallica classic \u2018Ride The Lightning\u2019 for their final album,<\/a> explaining: \u201cOne of the songs is a cover song but I actually wrote it, so it\u2019s kind of like a cover, kind of like my song.\u201d<\/p>\n

The frontman was briefly the lead guitarist in Metallica. Though he was kicked out of the group in 1983 before the release of their debut album \u2018Kill \u2018Em All\u2019, he is credited with writing a few songs on their first two records, including \u2018Ride The Lightning.<\/p>\n

Speaking to\u00a0Rolling Stone<\/a>, Mustaine said that \u201cit wasn\u2019t really that I wanted to do my version. I think that we all wanted it to turn out a certain way, and for me, this was about something so much more than how a song turns out. It was about respect.\u201d<\/p>\n
