{"id":282030,"date":"2025-11-14T06:54:09","date_gmt":"2025-11-14T06:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/282030\/"},"modified":"2025-11-14T06:54:09","modified_gmt":"2025-11-14T06:54:09","slug":"thousands-of-pupils-get-a-taste-of-f1-skills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/282030\/","title":{"rendered":"Thousands of pupils get a taste of F1 skills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">About 4,000 school pupils have had a taste of Formula 1 in their classrooms in a bid to get them interested in science, technology, engineering and maths (Stem) careers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The partnership between Oracle Red Bull Racing and Milton Keynes College saw children in the area given the chance to code miniature F1 cars, build a gas powered racing kit and change tyres in a pit stop challenge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Primary and secondary schools in Milton Keynes and Rushden in Northamptonshire,have hosted the experience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Rosie Thompson, from Milton Keynes College, said she wanted to &#8220;open their eyes to careers they perhaps haven&#8217;t even thought about&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"A smiling blonde woman at an event, with a disassembled F1 car behind her.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/e1e8359d291645d8ba4edad8ab716601.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Rosie Thompson said young girls &#8220;switch off to Stem before they&#8217;ve even reached GCSE level&#8221; [Sam Read\/BBC]<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">She said the initiative&#8217;s core aim was to&#8221; disrupt the talent pipeline&#8221; and show children potential careers in F1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Ms Thompson added: &#8220;Formula 1 is such a closed-down sport for a lot of young people&#8230; It&#8217;s just about opening the doors to them so that they can see that there is a future for them in Stem.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;A lot of young girls will switch off to Stem before they&#8217;ve even reached GCSE level.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"A man is crouched down and speaking to children dressed in purple school uniforms. There is a picture of an F1 car behind him and a mock-up car in the foreground.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/5c5aafc7f6236c05a08452c00f45a14f.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Calum Nicholas said he had no idea of the opportunities available to him when he was at school [Sam Read\/BBC]<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Oracle Red Bull Racing ambassador Calum Nicholas worked as part of the F1 pit crew for seven years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He said that despite his interest in engineering at school, he found inspiration only after seeing motorsport up close later in life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The technician explained: &#8220;At school I really had no sort of direction or no-one sort of showing me these opportunities in engineering.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;We see that there are gaps for future skills that we really need to fill.
